The Fiocchi Golden Pheasant is built specifically for what serious upland hunters demand: clean kills at distance and the velocity to stretch your effective range. The 1485 fps muzzle velocity puts these shells in the sweet spot for pheasant hunting, offering enough speed to eliminate long leads on wild birds while delivering the punch needed to drop strong roosters late in the season.
The nickel-plated shot is the real story here. Unlike standard lead, the plating keeps pellets harder and rounder as they travel down your barrel and through your choke. This means tighter, more consistent patterns downrange and penetration that gets the job done without leaving runners. You're also looking at less feather damage, which matters when you're planning to put birds on the table. The 1 3/8 ounce payload paired with #5 shot gives you the sweet balance most hunters chase – enough pellet count for a dense pattern, but pellets large enough to carry real energy out past 35 yards.
Fiocchi engineered these loads with innovative wads specifically designed to work with the nickel-plated shot, optimizing patterns across all chokes. The plastic hull feeds reliably through any shotgun, and the high-brass construction means you're getting consistent reloads that perform shot after shot. This is ammo you can trust when you're walking hills all day or hunting behind dogs in thick cover.
Nickel plating keeps pellets harder and rounder as they travel through your barrel and choke, resulting in tighter patterns and deeper penetration. It also reduces feather damage on game, meaning cleaner birds and fewer shots left in the meat. The harder pellets resist deformation, so you get more consistent, predictable patterns downrange.
Absolutely. 1485 fps is right in the optimal range for wild pheasants, even late in the season. This velocity, combined with the heavy 1 3/8 ounce payload of #5 shot, delivers enough energy to drop strong roosters at typical hunting distances without requiring excessive leads. It's fast enough to be effective, but not so hot that it beats up your shoulder or degrades pattern quality.
These shells pattern well through improved cylinder to modified chokes for most upland hunting. The nickel-plated shot flows smoothly through tight chokes, so you can go a bit tighter if you're hunting open country and expect longer shots. Patterning your specific gun is always the best approach, but Golden Pheasant loads are known for performing consistently across different choke restrictions.
Yes. While optimized for pheasants, the #5 shot size and 1485 fps velocity make these effective for other upland game including chukar, partridge, and huns. The nickel-plated shot and consistent patterns work well wherever you need hard-hitting performance on fast birds at moderate to longer ranges.
