Fiocchi Flyway steel loads bring no-compromise performance to your duck and goose season. Whether you're working mallards over decoys at 25 yards or threading steel at honkers passing overhead, these shells combine treated steel shot with protective wads and matched powders for patterns you can count on. The BB shot size gives you the versatility to tackle everything from wood ducks to big geese in a single load configuration.
There's a reason these shells get consistent praise from working waterfowlers. The treated steel pellets are uniform and round, the wad design protects your barrel, and the velocity stays consistent from shot to shot. You get 25 rounds per box, which means you're loading up for a real season, not just a couple afternoons. The 1500 fps muzzle velocity sits in that sweet spot where you're not chasing premium velocities, but you're not sacrificing terminal performance either.
BB shot delivers larger pellets than smaller sizes, which means fewer pellets per shell but better energy retention downrange. That's exactly what you want when geese are flaring at 45 yards or you're committed to pass-shooting situations. The matched powder and wad combination keeps those pellets together through the air, so you're getting the pattern density this shot size deserves. It's a straightforward load engineered for the work it needs to do.
Steel is harder than lead, so barrel and choke protection matters. These shells are built with that in mind. The protective wads cushion the payload and reduce stress on your shotgun. Most modern waterfowl guns handle steel fine, but always check your shotgun and choke manufacturer's recommendations before heading out.
Yes, BB is versatile enough to handle both. It works well for geese and larger waterfowl at distance, and you can use it over decoys for ducks too. The treated steel pellets retain energy well downrange, giving you options across different hunting situations. That said, some hunters prefer smaller shot like #2 or #4 for close-in duck work over decoys.
These are standard 3-inch shells, so any shotgun chambered for 3-inch shells will handle them. Steel shot is harder than lead, so check with your shotgun and choke manufacturer to confirm they're rated for steel. Most modern shotguns handle steel fine, but some older guns or older choke tubes weren't designed for it.
BB is a larger pellet than shot sizes like #2 or #4, which means you get fewer pellets in each shell but more energy per pellet. BB excels at longer distances and on larger birds like geese. Smaller sizes pack more pellets for better pattern density at closer range, which some hunters prefer for decoy work.
Yes, the pellets are treated steel, which helps with corrosion resistance and can improve patterning. The protective wad design also cushions the shot and reduces wear on your barrel and chokes. Overall, it's a setup designed to be both effective and easy on your gun.
