These Fiocchi Flyway shells pack serious punch for waterfowl hunting where long-range performance matters. The 3.5-inch length with 1-3/8 oz of BB steel shot moves at 1470 fps, giving you the velocity and pellet weight needed for geese and larger ducks well beyond typical ranges. BB shot size carries more energy downrange than smaller pellets, which makes a real difference when you're working pass-shooting situations or birds that won't commit all the way into your decoys.
The advantage of BB shot versus smaller sizes comes down to physics. Each BB pellet is larger and heavier, so fewer pellets means less pattern density at 20 yards but superior penetration and knockdown power at 40-50 yards. That tradeoff is exactly what serious geese hunters want. Fiocchi uses treated steel shot that's plated for uniformity and corrosion resistance, which matters when you're hunting marshes and flooded fields with moisture everywhere. The protective wads are engineered to reduce barrel wear from steel shot, keeping your gun running smoothly year after year.
These shells deliver the consistent, dense patterns that matter when your bird is at the edge of your effective range. The matched powder charge fires reliably through semi-auto and pump guns alike. Users report strong patterning and dependable function, which is what separates ammunition you'll actually shoot versus ammunition that sits in your locker. Twenty-five rounds per box means you'll have enough for scouting patterns through your gun before season, plus a solid supply for opening morning.
Make sure your shotgun is chambered for 3.5-inch shells before loading these. The extra case length and payload mean additional recoil, so they're best suited for hunters who've got a gun built for it.
BB carries more energy per pellet for geese and long-range shooting, but you get fewer pellets in the pattern. Smaller shot sizes like #2 or #3 pack the pattern denser, which helps on ducks at moderate range. Many waterfowlers keep both on hand depending on what they're hunting and expected shooting distance. Your best bet is to pattern your gun with both sizes to see what works best.
No, your gun must be specifically chambered for 3.5-inch shells. Loading them into a shotgun designed only for 3-inch or 2-3/4" shells is dangerous and will damage the firearm. Always check your gun's markings or manual before purchasing any ammunition.
Yes. Fiocchi uses plated steel shot and protective wads that resist corrosion in damp environments. That said, any ammunition exposed to moisture should be cleaned and dried promptly after your hunt to maintain long-term reliability.
Flyway shells have a solid reputation for consistent, reliable patterns. Hunters note that pattern results depend heavily on your specific gun and choke combination, so patterning through your shotgun at the distances you'll actually shoot is always worth the time invested before season.
