The 7mm Backcountry was built to squeeze magnum performance out of short barrels, and that makes this 20 inch Carbon Rage LR one of the smartest pairings Fierce offers. Federal's steel Peak Alloy case runs at pressures conventional brass can't touch, so you're getting velocities from this compact barrel that used to require 24 inches or more of steel hanging off the front of your rifle. Add a fast twist to stabilize the heavy, high-BC 7mm bullets and you have a rig that shoots flat way out there while staying short enough to maneuver through timber or run suppressed without feeling like a flagpole.
The heart of the rifle is the Fierce Triad 3-lug action with a quick 70 degree bolt throw, treated with an Armour Lube coating on the bolt and action that keeps cycling slick even when things get gritty. The C3 carbon fiber barrel uses a match-grade, hand-lapped liner that's stress relieved for consistency, finished in Fierce's Matrix weave and threaded at the muzzle with a stainless radial brake already installed. Fierce stands behind the build with a 1/2 MOA accuracy guarantee, and every Rage LR ships with a certified test target so you can see what your specific rifle did before it ever left the factory.
The Rage LR stock is where this rifle separates itself from the standard Carbon Rage. A push-button adjustable comb lets you dial your cheek weld to match your scope height in seconds, no tools needed. Up front there's an integral Picatinny rail for a bipod plus a mounting platform for the included Swiss-Arca plate, so tripod shooters are covered right out of the box. A Limbsaver recoil pad takes the edge off, the drop-box magazine feeds 3+1, and a 3-position safety lets you cycle the bolt with the trigger locked. At roughly six pounds bare, it carries like a mountain rifle and shoots like something much heavier.
Yes, and that's the whole point of the cartridge. The 7mm Backcountry uses Federal's Peak Alloy steel case, which handles roughly 80,000 psi, well beyond what brass allows. That lets it reach magnum-class velocities from 18 to 22 inch barrels, so this 20 inch Carbon Rage LR gives up very little speed while staying compact and suppressor friendly.
Both rifles share the Rage LR stock, adjustable comb, carbon fiber barrel, and accuracy guarantee. The main difference is the action material: the CT Rage LR runs a titanium Triad action to shave a few more ounces, while the Carbon Rage LR uses the standard Triad 3-lug action at a lower price point. Performance-wise, both carry the same 1/2 MOA guarantee.
