Federal chamfered the front face of the rim on these nickel-plated brass cases, removing sharp edges that can catch and jam in tubular magazines or side-gate loading systems. The case geometry also accounts for how rounds stack and feed through a lever action, something standard handgun ammunition just doesn't do.
The bullet is a molecularly bonded hollow point that's been optimized specifically for the velocities this round produces from typical lever-action barrel lengths. Federal's bonding process fuses the copper jacket and lead core at the molecular level, which means the bullet holds together on impact while delivering the expansion you need for medium-size game. The hollow point sits safely in a tubular magazine without snagging, but opens up reliably when it counts.
This load generates 1025 feet per second with 583 foot-pounds of energy at the muzzle, measured from a 20-inch barrel. Those numbers were chosen specifically because they're what lever-action barrels deliver naturally and what terminal ballistics demand in that range. You're not getting handgun velocities with rifle expectations or vice versa. Everything works together.
