This 12" barrel is built specifically for that round, machined from 416-R stainless steel at Faxon's facility in the greater Cincinnati area. The short length makes it a natural fit for a compact, suppressed bolt gun, and the salt bath nitride finish inside and out keeps corrosion and fouling in check while stretching out barrel life.
The headline here is that 1:3 twist rate. It sounds extreme because it is, and that is the whole point. 8.6 Blackout runs long, heavy subsonic projectiles, and it takes a fast twist like this to spin them up properly. That aggressive rotation is what drives the terminal performance the cartridge is known for, especially when you are running suppressed and subsonic. The barrel wears an M18x1.5 muzzle thread with a tapered shoulder, so mounting a can or thread protector is straightforward.
Faxon does not cut corners on the process. Each barrel is fully stress relieved, air-gauge tested, Magnetic Particle Inspected, and finished with an 11-degree target crown to protect the rifling and keep groups honest. It is the same treatment Faxon puts across its precision line, and it shows in the fit and finish that builders consistently point out.
This one is designed for the Savage 110 and Savage Small Shank pattern using the standard barrel nut system. It is not a true drop-in prefit, so plan on headspacing it with go/no-go gauges and torquing the nut correctly, which is a job best handled by someone comfortable behind a barrel vise. Worth knowing up front: it is not compatible with the Savage 110 PCS large shank or with Faxon's FX7 actions.
