The Gunner profile is Faxon's answer to a question every AR builder has wrestled with: do you want the durability of a Government barrel or the nimble handling of a Pencil? With the Gunner Duty, you don't have to pick one. It blends the strength of the Gov't contour with the weight savings of the Pencil, shifting the rifle's balance back toward you so the front end stays light and controllable through long strings of fire. At right around 1.29 pounds, this 13.9in barrel keeps your build quick on target without giving up rigidity where it counts.
Faxon starts with certified 4150 CMV steel and button rifles it to a 1:8 twist, which is a genuine do-it-all rate that stabilizes everything from lighter 55-grain loads up through heavier 77-grain projectiles. The mid-length gas system is the sweet spot for a barrel this length, smoothing out the recoil impulse and giving the action a little more dwell time so it runs cleaner and softer than a carbine-length setup. The whole barrel gets a salt bath nitride treatment inside and out, so it shrugs off fouling and corrosion whether it's living in a safe or riding in a truck.
This one is a favorite for pin-and-weld projects, since the 13.9in length lets you permanently attach a muzzle device to reach a 16in overall length. The muzzle wears 1/2×28 threads that accept just about any common brake, comp, or direct-thread can, and it's finished with an 11-degree target crown for consistent, repeatable accuracy. You'll want a .625in gas block for the 1.9in journal, and an adjustable block is a smart move if you plan on running a suppressor.
Everything Faxon makes is built in-house in Cincinnati, Ohio, and each barrel goes through the full workup: fully stress relieved, air-gauge tested, magnetic particle inspected, and headspace checked before it ships. It uses a standard M4 barrel extension, so it drops right into any mil-spec AR-15 upper and bolt. A 1:8 twist is about as versatile as it gets for 5.56 NATO and .223 Rem. It handles common lighter loads like 55-grain just fine and also stabilizes heavier match and defensive projectiles up through the 75 to 77-grain range. That makes this barrel a solid all-rounder for range time, training, or field use.
The barrel has a .625in gas block journal that measures 1.9in, so you'll want a standard .625in gas block. The muzzle is threaded 1/2×28, which accepts most common brakes, flash hiders, compensators, and direct-thread suppressors. If you plan to run a can, an adjustable gas block is a smart addition.
