Most rail covers on the market are either flimsy plastic that pops out under recoil or bulky two-piece designs that are a hassle to swap. FAB Defense built the MALC series around a hinged locking mechanism that clicks the cover into place by hand, no tools required, and stays locked until you deliberately pop it loose with a flathead screwdriver. That's the kind of hold you want on a rifle that sees regular range time or gets thrown in a truck between hunts.
This particular version is the MALC-2, the wider of the two available sizes at roughly 1.18 inches across, built to bridge the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions on your handguard rather than just filling a single narrow slot like the MALC-1 does. That wider footprint means fewer individual pieces to manage and a more continuous gripping surface along the rail, which a lot of guys prefer for a more natural hand placement.
Each pack comes with nine covers, giving you plenty to cover a full-length M-LOK handguard or split between a few builds. They're molded in black to blend in with most factory finishes, and since they're a direct heat shield as well as a texture upgrade, they earn their spot on any handguard where you're leaving slots open anyway. Installation is tool-free. You line the cover up with an open M-LOK slot and press until the hinged lock clicks shut. If you ever need to remove one, you'll want a flathead screwdriver to pop the locking tab loose.
