Description

Some single actions are built to sit in a safe and some are built to shoot. The Great Western II US Grant manages to do both. Manufactured and hand-fitted by F.LLI Pietta in Italy, this 1873-pattern revolver wears Victorian floral scroll engraving over roughly 95 percent of its surface, then gets finished in bright nickel that makes all that cut work jump out in the light. The Ultra Ivory polymer grips give you that classic old-ivory look against the polished metal without the upkeep or cost of the real thing.

The Story Behind the US Grant Revolver

This model is EMF's tribute to their late president Boyd Davis, who competed in Cowboy Action Shooting under the alias U.S. Grant and held SASS badge number 2. The engraving pattern is duplicated from the guns he ran in competition for years, so you are getting a piece of cowboy shooting history along with a genuinely striking revolver. It is one of those guns people will pick up and turn over in their hands before they say a word.

Great Western II Build and Handling

Underneath the dress-up, this is the same Great Western II platform that has earned a solid reputation on the SASS circuit. It is chambered in 45 Colt, holds six rounds, and carries a 4.75 inch barrel, the classic gunfighter length that balances quick handling with a usable sight radius. EMF kept the GWII line period correct with a floating firing pin in the hammer rather than a transfer bar, so the action feels and works the way the originals did. Fixed sights, crisp single action trigger, and that familiar four-click hammer draw round out the package.

Whether it ends up in a display case, a cowboy rig, or both, the US Grant is the kind of revolver that earns its spot. Fancy on the outside, honest working gun on the inside.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who makes the EMF Great Western II US Grant revolver?

It is manufactured and engraved by F.LLI Pietta in Italy, then nickel-plated, and imported by EMF Company. Pietta has been building EMF's Great Western II line since 2002 and these guns have a strong following in Cowboy Action Shooting circles for their fit and smooth actions.

Are the Ultra Ivory grips on the US Grant real ivory?

No, they are a polymer material molded and colored to give the look of aged ivory. That means you get the classic appearance without the fragility, expense, or care requirements of genuine ivory, and they hold up well to regular handling and range use.

Does the Great Western II US Grant have a transfer bar safety?

No. The GWII line is built period correct with a floating firing pin in the hammer instead of a transfer bar, just like the original 1873 pattern. Following traditional practice, many owners load five rounds and rest the hammer on an empty chamber when carrying.

Is this revolver a safe queen or can it be shot regularly?

It can absolutely be shot. Under the engraving and nickel, it is the same proven Great Western II platform used in SASS competition, and standard pressure 45 Colt loads are right at home in it. Plenty of buyers pick this model up for display and end up running it in matches anyway.
