Weight is the whole story with the Brigand Arms EDGE Handguard. This 15" rail is made from a patented woven carbon fiber braid that looks a bit like carbon chicken wire wrapped into a tube, and the open lattice is exactly what keeps it so light. Including the barrel nut and jam nut, the 15" EDGE comes in right around 5 ounces, which puts it near the top of the ultralight class for full-length AR-15 rails. If you're chasing every spare gram on a build, this is where you find it.

That open weave does more than cut weight. Carbon fiber doesn't soak up and hold heat the way aluminum does, so the barrel breathes and the rail stays comfortable to grab even after a string of fire. The tube is capped front and rear with hard anodized aluminum end caps that protect the leading edge from bumps and give you a clean mounting surface against the upper receiver.

How the EDGE 15" Mounts Up

Brigand Arms uses a free-float barrel nut system here, with an externally threaded aluminum barrel nut and a steel jam nut that both come in the box. That setup lets you dial in the alignment and lock everything down tight, and plenty of folks report the install is straightforward enough to do at the bench. The barrel nut replaces your factory nut, so your barrel free-floats for better consistency downrange. The barrel itself is not threaded as part of this handguard, and the EDGE carries a flat forward cut that lines up cleanly with a suppressor if you run one.

Adding Gear to Your EDGE Handguard

The lattice is meant to stay light, so accessory attachment works a little differently than a slotted aluminum rail. Brigand's 2.5" Picatinny rail segments, sold separately, drop into the weave with a backing plate that locks them in place wherever you want a light, bipod, or hand stop. Add as few or as many as the build calls for and keep the rest of the rail bare and feathery. It's a slick way to run a minimalist setup that still takes gear when you need it.
