The PRODIGY1 starts as a Springfield Armory Prodigy and goes through a comprehensive Ed Brown treatment before it ships. The result is a double-stack 9mm that carries the DNA of a custom shop pistol at a considerably more accessible price point.
The custom work here goes well beyond cosmetics. Ed Brown swaps in precision wire EDM-cut hammer and sear components for a noticeably crisper, smoother trigger pull. The reliability package includes a hand-fitted machined extractor and professional barrel throating, both test-fired before leaving the shop. The entire exterior gets dehorned, the top of the slide is flattened and serrated to cut glare and give the eye a clean path to the front sight, and the barrel crown is recessed for protection. All of it is finished in Ed Brown's proprietary Black Gen4 coating, a matte finish engineered for superior wear and corrosion resistance that matches the look of traditional matte bluing.
The ergonomics are a genuine highlight. Ed Brown's Memory Groove beavertail grip safety, an original Ed Brown design from the 1980s that has since been widely imitated, gets your hand as high and deep into the grip as possible. This naturally aligns the bore axis with your forearm, which translates to reduced felt recoil and better natural point of aim. The ambidextrous thumb safety is fully machined from solid barstock steel, not cast. Sights are a fiber optic front paired with a black serrated rear, and the 2-piece full-length guide rod keeps the recoil system running smooth.

Black Gen4 is Ed Brown's proprietary coating formulated specifically for wear and corrosion resistance. It has a matte appearance designed to closely match the look of traditional bead-blast bluing, but with significantly better protection against the elements and everyday holster wear. It's applied to the slide, frame, and all external components on the PRODIGY1.
The PRODIGY1 in Black Gen4 with polymer grips does not have an optic cut listed in the official specs. The base Springfield Prodigy platform does offer AOS (Agency Optic System) compatibility on certain variants, but the PRODIGY1 should be confirmed with the retailer or Ed Brown directly if optics mounting is a priority for you. If optics-ready is a must, Ed Brown also offers the SPMETAL variant with an optic-ready slide.
The PRODIGY1 ships with one 17-round and one 20-round magazine. Because the Fueled Prodigy is built on the Springfield Prodigy platform, it is compatible with 9mm STI and Staccato-pattern double-stack magazines, which gives you a wide selection of aftermarket options to work with.
