Description
Ed Brown has been building world-class 1911s for over 50 years, and the Fueled M&P series is what happens when that same obsession with fit, finish, and performance gets applied to a modern striker-fired platform. The MPFTACT starts with a Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0 frame and replaces nearly everything from the slide down, including the barrel, locking block, extractor, trigger assembly, guide rod, recoil spring, pins, sights, and magazine baseplates. What stays is the frame. What comes back is a completely different gun.
The slide is machined from 17-4 stainless steel, finished in black nitride, and cut with front and rear serrations along with an optic cut sized for the Trijicon RMR footprint. Inside that slide rides a 4.75-inch match-grade barrel button-rifled from 416 stainless steel with a 1:10 twist and an 11-degree target crown. Ed Brown's signature Tread Flutes run along the barrel, which ships with 1/2×28 threads and a thread protector installed, making it fully suppressor-ready right out of the box. The black nitride finish covers the barrel for corrosion resistance and long-term durability.
One of the most significant upgrades in the whole Fueled build is the Custom Accuracy Rail, an oversized machined block that replaces the factory locking block and front rails in the polymer frame. Ed Brown hand-fits the slide and barrel to this rail and uses custom solid steel pins instead of the factory roll pins. The result is a pistol with zero play at barrel lockup and no rattle, which is genuinely uncommon in a polymer-frame gun. That tight fit translates directly to tighter groups downrange.
The Apex Tactical flat-faced trigger is installed and fitted by Ed Brown to take full advantage of the precision assembly around it. The sear is custom machined, the striker block is skeletonized, and the overall pull comes in around 3.5 to 4 pounds with a short reset and minimal overtravel. Ameriglo Pro-Glo suppressor-height sights sit atop the slide, with a tritium and orange-ringed front post and a plain black serrated rear. They co-witness with the RMR cut and stand tall enough for use alongside most suppressors. The aluminum 360-degree magwell is machined and fitted to the frame, keeping the profile low enough for carry while still making reloads noticeably faster.
This pistol ships with two 17-round magazines, one fitted with a low-profile aluminum baseplate and one with an extended baseplate that bumps capacity to 19 rounds. It is a serious piece of kit built for people who want a full-custom pistol on the M&P platform without building it themselves.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much of the original S&W M&P is left in the Fueled M&P Tactical?
Not much. Ed Brown replaces the slide, barrel, locking block, extractor, guide rod, recoil spring, trigger assembly, pins, sights, and magazine baseplates with custom-machined components. The only S&W factory part remaining is the polymer M&P 2.0 frame. This is why the Fueled series shoots and feels so different from a stock M&P.
What makes the Ed Brown MPFTACT different from the other Fueled M&P models?
The MPFTACT uses the Tactical slide profile with front and rear serrations and an optic cut, but without the porting found on the Match variant. The 4.75-inch barrel is finished in black nitride rather than titanium nitride or the multi-color Spectrum finish. It is the most purpose-built, no-nonsense configuration in the Fueled lineup, aimed at duty, defensive, and suppressor-ready use.
Is the MPFTACT ready to run a suppressor out of the box?
Yes. The 4.75-inch barrel ships with 1/2×28 threads and a thread protector installed, and the Ameriglo sights are suppressor-height so your sight picture stays clear with a can mounted. The pistol runs reliably on standard pressure and +P defensive ammunition suppressed. If you plan to run very lightweight subsonic ammunition suppressed, Ed Brown offers a lighter recoil spring option to keep everything cycling properly.
What optic footprint is the slide cut for?
The MPFTACT slide is cut for the Trijicon RMR footprint, which is one of the most common patterns in the industry and compatible with a wide range of mini red dot optics beyond just the RMR. A matching cover plate is included for use without an optic. The Ameriglo suppressor-height irons co-witness with the RMR when mounted.
What does the Custom Accuracy Rail actually do?
The Custom Accuracy Rail is an oversized machined block that replaces the factory front rail block inside the M&P's polymer frame. Ed Brown hand-fits the slide and barrel to this rail along with custom solid steel pins, creating an exceptionally tight fit between all three components. This eliminates the barrel play that is common on production polymer-frame pistols and is one of the key reasons the Fueled platform shoots so accurately.
What magazines does the MPFTACT ship with, and can you use standard S&W M&P magazines?
The MPFTACT ships with two 17-round magazines, both fitted with custom machined aluminum baseplates. One is low-profile and one is extended, which bumps capacity to 19 rounds. The base magazines are S&W factory units, so standard S&W M&P9 magazines work just fine in the Fueled pistol.
