Instead of shipping you a slide with a cover plate and a footprint chart, Ed Brown mounts a Trijicon RMRcc 3.25 MOA red dot at the shop and pairs it with their own co-witness rear sight and an AmeriGlo orange front. The dot and the irons work together right out of the bag, which is exactly how a carry 1911 should show up. Underneath the optic is what Ed Brown does best: a hand-built, fully machined 1911 in .45 ACP with a 4.25 inch Commander slide and a fit you can feel the first time you rack it.
The Commander Bobtail frame trims the rear corner of the grip, and that small cut does a lot of work. It takes away the part of a 1911 that digs into your side and prints through a shirt, so a full steel .45 rides closer and carries easier than you'd expect. Ed Brown's Snakeskin texturing on the frontstrap and mainspring housing locks your hand in place without chewing it up, and the black G10 grips give you solid purchase in any weather. At roughly 37 ounces with an empty magazine, there's enough steel here to soak up .45 ACP recoil and keep follow-up shots quick.
The FX slide cut package with American flag serrations machined into both sides of the slide is the signature touch, and it grabs attention at every range trip. The flush-fit barrel with recessed crown, recessed slide stop with serrated pin, and black accents on the trigger and bushing tie the whole Industrial stainless look together. Each pistol ships with two Ed Brown Performance magazines, which are a big part of why these guns run so well with modern defensive ammo, plus a pistol bag, wrenches, lube, and a cable lock. Yes. The Trijicon RMRcc 3.25 MOA optic is mounted at the factory, so there's no plate hunting or gunsmith work needed. Ed Brown also fits their own co-witness rear sight along with an AmeriGlo orange front sight, so you have usable irons visible through the optic window as a backup.
The Bobtail cut removes the rear bottom corner of the grip frame. That rounded contour keeps the butt of the gun from digging into your side or printing through clothing, which is the biggest tell on a carried 1911. It also takes a sharp edge out of your palm, so many folks find it more comfortable to shoot too.
Two Ed Brown Performance magazines come in the bag, each with a base pad kit. These are 7-round single stack mags built from hardened stainless steel, and Ed Brown's magazine design is a big reason their .45s feed modern hollow points so reliably.
At around 37 ounces with an empty magazine, it's heavier than a polymer gun, but that's the trade a lot of 1911 fans happily make. The steel weight tames .45 ACP recoil noticeably, and with a quality belt and holster the Bobtail profile carries better than the number on the scale suggests. The 4.25 inch Commander slide also balances well between sight radius and concealability.
