Commemorative pistols come and go, but this one deserves a longer look. The Girsan MC1911 USA 250YR marks the 250th anniversary of American independence in 2026 with a full-size Government pattern 1911 in .45 ACP, finished in polished chrome with gold accented controls and custom engraved grips carrying an Eagle and Flag design honoring 250 Years of Freedom. It has real presence in the hand and on display, the kind of pistol that gets passed around the counter when it comes out of the case.
The bright chrome slide and frame are set off by gold controls, and the engraved grip panels give it that limited edition character collectors look for. EAA and Girsan didn't just polish a standard gun and call it a day. The presentation is cohesive from the slide engraving down to the grip screws, and since this is a limited anniversary run tied to a once-in-a-lifetime date, these tend to move quickly when they show up in stock.
Under the shine, this is the proven MC1911 platform, so it's built to be shot, not just admired. You get a 5 inch barrel, crisp single-action trigger with a skeletonized 3-hole shoe, front cocking serrations, an extended beavertail for a high grip without hammer bite, and an ambidextrous thumb safety that works for lefties too. An accessory rail up front adds a modern touch the original Government model never had, and the 8+1 capacity of .45 ACP is exactly what 1911 fans expect.
Because it follows standard full-size 1911 conventions, spare Government pattern .45 ACP magazines and grip panels are easy to come by if you plan on shooting it regularly. Whether it ends up in the safe as a keepsake of America's 250th or earns a regular spot in your range bag, this Girsan covers both jobs without asking you to choose.
It's both. Underneath the chrome and gold finish sits Girsan's proven MC1911 platform, so it handles range sessions just like any full-size .45 ACP 1911. Features like the extended beavertail, ambidextrous safety, and front cocking serrations are working upgrades, not decoration. Many buyers keep the factory grips pristine and swap in shooting grips for regular range use.
Yes. It follows the standard Government-size 1911 pattern, so full-size .45 ACP 1911 magazines, typically 8-round, are the baseline fit. Grip panels also follow the standard full-size 1911 footprint, making spare parts and upgrades easy to source.
This model commemorates the 250th anniversary of American independence in 2026. It wears a polished chrome finish with gold accented controls and specially engraved Eagle and Flag grips honoring 250 Years of Freedom. It's a limited anniversary run, which is a big part of the appeal for collectors.
Standard pressure 230 grain .45 ACP ball is the classic choice for range work and tends to run smoothly in full-size 1911s. Quality jacketed hollow points work well if you want it doing double duty for defense. As with any new 1911, it's smart to test a few loads to find what your particular pistol likes best.
