Plenty of AK-pattern rifles get built from surplus parts kits of questionable mileage. The DPMS Anvil takes a different route. Every one is built from all-new, precision-manufactured components, and the parts that matter most, the bolt, carrier, and front trunnion, are hammer forged for strength where the rifle takes its hardest pounding. DPMS even engraves the trunnion and bolt carrier with the Anvil name so you know you're looking at the forged model.
The 16 inch barrel is 4150 steel with a gas nitride treatment inside and out, which means better corrosion resistance and longer barrel life than old-school chrome lining, without giving up accuracy. That barrel is pressed into the hammer-forged front trunnion, the same construction approach that gave original AKs their reputation for going the distance. The receiver is hardened 1mm stamped steel housing a mil-spec style single hook trigger, and the 1:9.5 twist stabilizes standard 7.62×39 loads just fine.
Furniture is traditional black polymer on the handguard, stock, and grip, so it handles like the AK you already know. The rear leaf sight is graduated way out to 800 yards in true Kalashnikov fashion, and the factory side rail lets you clamp on a red dot or scope mount without drilling anything. This version feeds from a 10 round magazine for 10+1 on board, and it runs on the AK's long stroke piston system, the same setup that made this platform famous for eating cheap steel-case ammo without complaint.
7.62×39 remains one of the most affordable centerfire rifle cartridges around, and it hits plenty hard for hogs, deer at reasonable range, or just burning through a range day. If you've been wanting an AK that's fresh production instead of a mystery build, the Anvil is a solid way to get there.
