Derya took that concept and dropped it into a striker-fired polymer 9mm anyone can afford, and the result is one of the more interesting pistols to hit the market lately. The DY9 Island shifts mass forward to the barrel and vents gas through four ports machined into the top, which Derya estimates cuts muzzle rise by about 25 percent and felt recoil by roughly 12 percent. Pair that with a lighter slide and the gun tracks noticeably flatter than a standard compact 9mm, so your follow-up shots come quicker and land closer together.

What Makes the DY9 Island Different

The front sight mounts directly to the barrel instead of the reciprocating slide, so it stays put while the gun cycles.
