The DY9Z is Derya Arms' micro-compact entry in the 9mm striker-fired market, and it punches well above its weight class in terms of features. The frame measures just 1.1 inches wide with a 6.5-inch overall length and 5-inch height, and the whole package tips the scales at 20 oz empty. That's a genuinely carry-friendly footprint, but the 15+1 capacity from the included metal magazine keeps it from feeling like a compromise. For context, that's the same round count you'd expect from guns in a much larger package.
The purple/black color combo on this model is a standout. The frame is injection-molded in a bold purple dye that runs through the polymer, not a coating that can chip or flake, while the slide wears a black Melonite (nitride) finish for corrosion resistance and long-term durability. The slide is cut directly for RMSc footprint optics, no adapter plate needed, so dropping on a compact red dot is a clean, straightforward upgrade. The factory fixed sights feature a white dot front and U-notch rear that work well in low light if you're running it without an optic.
Grip comfort gets addressed with three included backstraps (small, medium, and large), so you can dial in the feel for your hand size rather than just living with whatever the factory decided. The frame also includes a Picatinny-style accessory rail on the dustcover for a light or laser, and the magazine release is reversible for left-handed users. Internally, the barrel and slide are built from 4140 steel, with the barrel heat treated and machined for consistency. Safety-wise, the DY9Z uses a firing pin block and an anti-drop trigger block, both passive and both working without any extra manual steps from the shooter.
The DY9Z magazines are compatible with the Glock 43X platform, which is a nice bonus for anyone who already runs that ecosystem. It's a solid first handgun, a practical carry option, or a range-friendly everyday trainer, all in one package.
The DY9Z slide is machined with a direct RMSc footprint, so any optic using the RMSc mounting pattern will mount without an adapter plate. Popular options like the Holosun EPS Carry, Shield RMSc, and similar compact red dots drop right on. The sight cuts are also compatible with Glock Slimline-pattern iron sights if you want to swap those out down the road.
The DY9Z uses its own metal-body 15-round magazine and is also compatible with Glock 43X and Glock 48 series magazines for a flush fit. The PSA Micro Dagger magazine also works. Derya specifically designed the pistol with a proprietary metal magazine catch to hold up better over time compared to polymer catches.
At 1.1 inches wide and 20 oz unloaded, it carries like a slim micro-compact but still delivers 15+1 rounds of 9mm. The 3.5-inch barrel gives you more muzzle velocity and softer recoil than shorter micro pistols, which makes it more comfortable for regular range training too. It's one of the better do-it-all options in its size class for someone who wants one gun that works both on the hip and at the range.
The purple color is a dyed polymer formula developed in-house at Derya's Turkish injection molding facility, not a painted or coated finish. Because the color runs through the material itself, it won't chip or flake the way a surface coating might. The black Melonite slide finish is equally durable and adds corrosion resistance for the metal components.
Standard pressure 9mm FMJ and JHP loads cycle reliably, and the pistol is rated for +P defensive ammunition as well. Derya recommends a minimum muzzle velocity of around 1,100 FPS for consistent cycling, so subsonic or very light target loads may not be the best choice for this platform. Running a variety of standard-pressure ammo during the first couple hundred rounds is a good way to break it in and verify your carry load functions flawlessly.
The pistol ships with small, medium, and large backstraps installed to the medium by default. If the grip feels like too much of a stretch to the trigger, swap down to the small. If your hand is larger and you want a fuller feel, the large backstrap fills in the back of the grip nicely. Swapping them out is straightforward and requires no tools.
