Hang a suppressor on a tilting-barrel pistol without a booster and you'll find out fast why pistons exist. The extra weight keeps the barrel from unlocking on schedule, and the gun starts short-stroking, stovepiping, or just refusing to run. The Dead Air Mojave Piston in M16x1 LH is the fix for .45 caliber hosts wearing left-hand metric threads, most famously HK's USP 45 Tactical and similar European-pattern barrels. It threads onto the muzzle, works with the booster spring inside the PB500 Booster Assembly that comes standard with the Mojave 9 and Mojave 45, and lets the barrel do its Browning-action thing while the can stays put and stays aligned.
Dead Air machined this piston specifically for the Mojave line, so fit and alignment are exactly what the suppressor was designed around. The bore is sized for .45 caliber projectiles, which also means it covers 9mm and .40 hosts sharing the same thread pattern if you ever swap the can around. And if you want to run your Mojave on a fixed-barrel host like a pistol-caliber carbine, this same piston works when paired with the Mojave Fixed Barrel Spacer, sold separately. One small part, a lot of flexibility.
Installation is about as simple as it gets. Unscrew your current piston from the booster housing, thread the PB445 in its place, and mount the assembled can on your pistol's muzzle. Pay attention to the LH designation before ordering, since Dead Air also makes a right-hand M16x1 version (PB446) and the two are not interchangeable. If your barrel tightens counterclockwise, left-hand is what you need. Keep the piston clean and lightly lubed, because pistol cans run dirty and a gummed-up booster is the most common culprit behind cycling hiccups. Sorted correctly, this little chunk of steel is the difference between a suppressed .45 that runs all day and one that fights you every magazine.
M16x1 left-hand is a European metric pattern best known from HK's USP 45 Tactical, along with aftermarket .45 barrels cut to the same spec. The easy check is the direction the muzzle device tightens: left-hand threads snug up counterclockwise. If your barrel tightens clockwise, you want the PB446 in M16x1 RH instead.
Not if you already own the suppressor. Both the Mojave 9 and Mojave 45 ship with the PB500 Booster Assembly and internal booster spring, and the PB445 threads right into that housing. You're just swapping pistons to match your host's threads.
Yes, but not by itself. On fixed-barrel firearms the booster action needs to be locked out, which is what the Mojave Fixed Barrel Spacer does. Pair the PB445 with that spacer and you can run the same can on a pistol-caliber carbine or other fixed-barrel setup.
The bore on this piston clears .45 caliber projectiles, so smaller rounds like 9mm pass through fine as long as the thread pattern matches your barrel. You may give up a touch of suppression compared to a caliber-matched setup, but plenty of folks run one piston across multiple hosts this way. Just never go the other direction and push a larger bullet through a smaller-bore piston.
