The Dead Air Xeno GOV A1 takes the tried-and-true A1 birdcage flash hider and builds Dead Air's Xeno taper-mount system right into it. On its own it works like any quality birdcage device, knocking down visible muzzle flash on your .30 caliber rifle. Thread on a compatible suppressor and it becomes the front half of one of the slickest quick-attach systems out there. This is the 1/2-28 version bored for .30 cal, running roughly 2.16 inches long with a 0.99 inch outside diameter and tipping the scale at about 3.36 ounces.
The difference between this and the regular Xeno flash hider comes down to the metal. Where the standard model uses nitrided 4140 steel, the GOV series is machined from heat-treated 17-4 PH stainless steel and then nitride coated. That means added strength and even better resistance to the corrosion and erosion that come with running a can hot for long strings. If you're the type who leaves a suppressor mounted for hundreds of rounds at a stretch, this is the version built for that kind of abuse.
The magic of the Xeno setup is the tapered interface paired with left-hand locking threads between the flash hider and the Xeno Adapter. Those left-hand threads keep the adapter tightening down rather than backing out when you spin the suppressor off, so you can trust the mount is seated every single time. There's no timing to fuss with and no extra moving parts to fail. The device also sits shallow in the blast chamber, which cuts down on focused baffle erosion and helps your can live longer. Generous wrench flats stay accessible even with the suppressor fully installed, so you can snug things up without tearing your whole rig apart.
