Description

Dead Air built its reputation on the original Sandman, and the Sandman X is what a decade of lessons learned looks like. Instead of welded baffle stacks, this can is 3D printed from Haynes 282, a nickel-based superalloy borrowed from jet turbine engines. That gets you a monolithic body with no weld seams to fail and internal geometry that machining simply cannot produce. It is full-auto rated, carries no barrel length restrictions, and handles everything up to .300 RUM, which means your .308, 6.5 Creedmoor, 300 Blackout, and even 5.56 hosts are all fair game with the right front cap and mount.

Triskelion Gas Management Inside the Sandman X

The standout feature here is Dead Air's Triskelion system, which pushes propellant gases forward and out of the can instead of dumping them back through your action. On a gassy AR that translates to a cleaner face, less carbon fouling in your bolt carrier, and a rifle that is not artificially over-driven by suppressor backpressure. The tone at the shooter's ear is where this can earns its keep, and it took home the Shoot On 2025 Excellence Award for good reason.

Xeno Mount, HUB Compatible, Ready Out of the Box

This configuration comes set up with Dead Air's Xeno mounting system and includes the DA130 three-prong flash hider in 5/8×24, so it is ready to go on most .30 caliber barrels the day your paperwork clears. The Xeno mount keeps the package at 6.4 inches and roughly 14.5 ounces, which is noticeably trimmer than the KeyMo version and a real advantage on shorter barrels or precision rigs where repeatable zero matters. Since the rear of the can is a standard 1.375×24 HUB socket, you can swap over to KeyMo, direct thread, or other HUB-pattern mounts down the road. The R-Series flash hider front cap knocks down muzzle flash and swaps out for caliber-specific caps if you want to squeeze out every last bit of performance. The high-temp FDE Cerakote finish shrugs off heat and weather while looking right at home on an earth-tone build.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I run the Sandman X on calibers other than .308?

Yes, and that flexibility is a big part of the appeal. The Sandman X is rated up to .300 RUM with no barrel length restrictions, so .308, 6.5 Creedmoor, 300 Blackout, and 5.56 are all in play. For best results on 5.56 hosts, Dead Air recommends pairing it with their 5.56 flash hider end cap.

What is the difference between the Xeno and KeyMo versions of the Sandman X?

The Xeno configuration is shorter and lighter, coming in around 6.4 inches and 14.5 ounces, and it uses a thread-to-taper mount known for repeatable zero, which makes it a favorite for precision and lightweight builds. KeyMo adds a bit of length and weight but is often preferred for high-volume duty use. Since the Sandman X uses a standard HUB 1.375×24 socket, you can switch between the two mounting systems whenever you want.

Does the Sandman X really reduce gas blowback?

It does, and it is one of the main upgrades over the older Sandman models. The 3D-printed Triskelion gas management system vents propellant gases forward out of the can rather than back toward your face, which means less gas at the shooter, a cleaner action, and reduced wear on your rifle. Reviewers running it on semi-autos consistently note the difference during extended sessions.

Is the Dead Air Sandman X full-auto rated?

Yes. It was designed for hard use on semi-automatic and fully automatic 7.62 NATO rifles, and the monolithic Haynes 282 superalloy construction handles sustained heat and pressure far better than traditional welded stainless designs. Dead Air also backs it with a lifetime warranty.
