Threaded barrels come in all sorts of patterns, and M14.5×1 left-hand is one you'll run into on certain .40 caliber pistols, most notably the HK USP Tactical in .40 S&W. That's exactly what this piston is here for. The Dead Air PB443 is the .40 cal, M14.5x1LH piston for the Mojave 9 and Mojave 45 suppressors, and it lets you mount either can on a host that most off-the-shelf pistons simply won't fit.
Just about every modern centerfire semi-auto pistol runs a Browning-style tilting barrel. Hang a suppressor off the muzzle without a booster and that extra weight keeps the barrel from unlocking, which turns your semi-auto into a single-shot real quick. The piston works inside the PB500 Booster Assembly, the same one that ships with the Mojave 9 and Mojave 45, along with the internal booster spring to give the barrel the extra kick it needs to cycle normally. Swap in the piston that matches your barrel threads and your pistol runs the way it was built to, suppressed or not.
This particular piston is bored for .40 caliber and cut for M14.5×1 left-hand threads. Double-check the markings on your threaded barrel before ordering, because left-hand metric threads are not something you want to guess on. If your barrel is threaded 9/16-24 instead, Dead Air makes the PB442 for that pattern, and there are 9mm and .45 versions covering the rest of the common thread pitches. Dead Air also offers a fixed barrel spacer if you ever want to move your Mojave over to a fixed-barrel host.
Swapping pistons is quick work, so plenty of folks keep a couple different thread patterns in the range bag and move one suppressor across several pistols. If a .40 with metric left-hand threads is in your stable, this is the piece that brings it into the rotation.
