Dead Air built the KeyMount Flash Hider to do two jobs well: cut down visible muzzle flash and give your KeyMo suppressor a secure place to lock up. It threads onto standard 1/2×28 barrels found on most .223 and 5.56 AR platforms, and the mass-shifted, equal-length tine design disrupts and cools burning gases before they light up outside the muzzle. That means less flash signature in low light, which matters when you don't want to give away your position.
Anyone who has run a three-prong flash hider knows the maddening "ping" that rings out after a shot. Dead Air engineered that out of this one. The uneven tine masses cancel the ringing while still doing the flash-hiding work, so you get all the performance without the tuning-fork soundtrack. Machined from 4140 heat-treated alloy steel with a black nitride finish, this thing is made to live on a hard-use rifle. It carries a pre-drilled pin-and-weld hole at the 6 o'clock position if you want to pin it to a shorter barrel, and it doesn't require timing to function correctly. The only reason to time it is to get the index point where you want it. Bore is sized to the 1/2×28 thread pitch for proper 5.56 clearance.

No, timing isn't required for the flash hider to function properly. The only reason you'd time it is to get the index point in a specific spot for looks or preference. Just be sure to torque it correctly during install for proper thread engagement.

This 1/2×28 version is bored to meet the 5.56/.223 requirement and is intended for .22 caliber firearms with 1/2×28 threads. If you're running a .30 caliber build, Dead Air makes a 5/8×24 version that's bored to .30 cal. Match the flash hider to your barrel's thread pitch and caliber for proper clearance.
