It caps over your muzzle device and redirects the concussion, pressure, and flash forward of the muzzle instead of letting it wash sideways and back over the firing line. The difference in comfort is immediate, and follow-up shots come faster because the shroud also works as a linear compensator, keeping the muzzle flatter so your sight picture stays put.
This version of the kit, model DA465XNL, ships with the DA458 Xeno adapter for 1 1/8-28 threads, so it mates up with Xeno muzzle devices and legacy pistol-style mounts running that thread pattern. Because the whole system is modular, the shroud and adapter play nicely with other Dead Air accessories and suppressor mounts, which means one purchase can move between setups as your collection grows. The generous .458 caliber through bore covers everything from 9mm carbines up to big-bore builds.
The shroud itself is machined from 4140 HT alloy steel with the adapter in 17-4 stainless, all wearing a black nitride finish that shrugs off carbon and weather. At 2.56 inches long and just 4.6 ounces, it adds real blast mitigation without turning your compact build into a boat anchor. There is a practical safety bonus too: on short guns, the shroud extends the muzzle out past your support hand, giving you a little extra margin when running a forward grip.

Not in the way a suppressor does. It redirects the blast, pressure, and flash forward of the muzzle rather than reducing overall sound, so the report is pushed downrange instead of back at you and the people beside you. For the shooter and anyone on the firing line, the perceived concussion drops noticeably, but total sound at the muzzle is largely unchanged.
This kit includes the DA458 Xeno adapter, which uses the 1 1/8-28 thread pattern. That covers Dead Air Xeno muzzle devices along with legacy pistol-style mounts that share those threads. If your muzzle devices run KeyMo, HUB 1 3/8-24, or another pattern, Dead Air offers the same shroud kitted with different adapters, so check your mount before ordering.
Yes. The .458 caliber through bore is generously oversized on purpose, so it clears everything from 5.56 and 9mm up through big-bore cartridges. That oversize bore is part of what makes the shroud so easy to move between different guns in your safe.
This configuration measures 2.56 inches and weighs 4.6 ounces, making it one of the lighter options in the Blast Shroud lineup. Keep in mind it mounts over your existing muzzle device, so the added length at the muzzle is modest. On a short-barreled gun, that little bit of extension is a plus since it pushes the muzzle out past your support hand.
