Anyone who has stood next to a braked .45-70 lever gun or a short-barreled big bore knows the feeling. That wall of pressure comes off the muzzle sideways and everybody within ten feet pays for it. The Dead Air Blast Shroud fixes that. It mounts over your Xemax muzzle device using the included DA456 Xemax Adapter, capturing the blast and redirecting it forward of the muzzle where it belongs. The result is noticeably less concussion and flash at the shooting position, which means faster follow-up shots for you and fewer dirty looks from the next bench over.
The shroud itself is machined from 4140 heat-treated alloy steel and the Xemax adapter is 17-4 stainless, both wearing a black nitride finish that shrugs off carbon and corrosion. This DA463MAX kit comes in at 2.43 inches long and just 5.2 ounces, so it adds real blast mitigation without turning your rifle into a boat anchor. The .458 caliber through bore covers the big stuff, from .450 Bushmaster and .45-70 to 8.6 Blackout and other large bore cartridges running Xemax mounts.
Because the shroud body uses the common HUB 1 3/8-24 thread pattern, it plays nicely with other Dead Air adapters down the road. Swap the insert and the same shroud can ride on a different mounting system, so you are not locked into one configuration if your muzzle devices change. It also works as a linear compensator of sorts, helping keep the muzzle flatter while extending the blast forward of your support hand on shorter guns.
If you already run Xemax brakes as suppressor mounts, this is the natural companion for the days you shoot unsuppressed. Thread it on, keep the same zero-fuss taper mount repeatability the Xemax system is known for, and make range day a lot more pleasant for everyone involved.
This kit is set up for Dead Air Xemax muzzle brakes, which are the big bore version of the Xeno taper mount system. The included DA456 adapter lets the shroud lock over your existing Xemax device. Since the shroud body uses HUB 1 3/8-24 threads, you can also swap in other Dead Air adapters later if your setup changes.
It is not a suppressor, so it will not reduce overall sound the way a can does. What it does is redirect the blast, flash, and concussion forward of the muzzle instead of letting it wash back over you and the people beside you. At the shooting position it feels dramatically more comfortable, especially on short barrels and braked big bores.
The .458 caliber through bore handles the large bore cartridges the Xemax system was built for, including .45-70, .450 Bushmaster, and 8.6 Blackout, plus anything smaller running an Xemax mount. Just make sure your bullet diameter clears the .458 bore and that your muzzle device is properly aligned before shooting.
The DA456 adapter threads into the shroud, and the assembly then mounts over your Xemax brake using the same self-aligning taper interface Dead Air uses for its suppressors. That means consistent, repeatable mounting and easy removal when you want to run your suppressor instead. No permanent modification to the rifle is needed.
