The full-size Desert Eagle has always been a beast to carry around the range, and that is exactly the problem the L5 solves. Magnum Research built this Mark XIX variant on a hard-coat anodized aluminum frame paired with a black carbon steel slide and 5 inch barrel, bringing the whole package down to about 3 pounds 1.6 ounces. That is well over a pound lighter than the traditional all-steel models, and you feel the difference the moment you pick it up. Overall length lands right around 9.75 inches, so this is the most packable .50 AE Deagle in the lineup.
A lighter Desert Eagle in .50 Action Express raises an obvious question about recoil, and Magnum Research answered it with their integral muzzle brake machined right into the barrel. Combined with the gas-operated, rotating bolt action that already soaks up a good chunk of the push, the L5 shoots softer than you would expect from a 3 pound fifty. The Hogue finger groove rubber grip gives your hands real purchase, and the grip angle sets you up naturally for a solid two-handed hold. The single action trigger breaks at roughly 4 pounds, which does its part for accuracy too.
Up top you get fixed combat-style sights with a generous 8.5 inch sight radius, plus a full-length Picatinny-style rail running along the barrel for a red dot or scope if irons are not your thing. Ambidextrous safeties come standard, and the serrated slide gives you a good grab when racking against that stout recoil spring. Capacity is 7+1, and one 7-round magazine ships in the box. One thing worth knowing before you buy: the L5's frame, slide, and barrel are a dedicated 5 inch system, so they do not swap with the 6 and 10 inch Desert Eagle components.
