There is a lot to like about running 7.62×39 through an AR, and the Diamondback DB15 makes a strong case for it. You get the cheap, hard-hitting cartridge that has fed AKs for decades, wrapped in a platform with a crisp trigger reach, familiar controls, and a flat-top upper ready for whatever optic you want to mount. Diamondback builds these in their own CNC facility in Cocoa, Florida, starting with forged 7075-T6 aluminum receivers and a shot-peened 8620 bolt carrier riding a proven direct impingement gas system.
The 16 inch medium-profile barrel is 4150 chrome moly vanadium steel with a black nitride finish and a 1:9.5 twist that stabilizes common 122 and 123 grain loads well. It runs a carbine-length gas system, which helps with reliable cycling on this cartridge, and the muzzle is threaded with an A2 flash hider installed so you can swap in a brake or other device down the road. Up front, the 15 inch free-float M-LOK handguard gives you a full-length Picatinny top rail plus QD sling points, with plenty of real estate for lights, hand stops, or a bipod without touching the barrel.
Diamondback did not cut corners on the touch points. The Magpul MOE grip and MOE PR carbine stock come standard, so it shoulders and points the way a modern AR should right out of the box. Just as important, it ships with a proper 28 round magazine designed specifically for the tapered 7.62×39 case. The 7.62×39 case has a lot of taper, so purpose-built curved magazines are what keep this caliber feeding smoothly in an AR. Stick with quality 7.62×39-specific mags and you'll be in good shape.
It's a solid choice for deer and hogs at short to moderate ranges. The 7.62×39 cartridge with soft point or expanding ammo performs a lot like the classic .30-30 in the field, and at around 6.7 pounds this carbine carries easily. The M-LOK handguard also makes it simple to add a light or sling for hunting setups.
