The mid-length gas system is the standout feature here, and it's the setup a lot of folks prefer on a 16-inch barrel. Moving the gas port farther down the barrel lowers port pressure and slows the cycling a touch, which translates to a softer recoil impulse and less wear on your bolt and buffer components over time.
