The CZ Scorpion 3+ Pistol is the latest evolution of one of the most popular 9mm platforms on the market, and CZ clearly listened to their customer base when designing it. Built around a 7.8-inch cold hammer-forged barrel threaded 1/2×28, it gives you a lot more real estate than a typical handgun barrel, which translates to better muzzle velocity and a longer sight radius out of a package that still only measures 15.2 inches overall. The fiber-reinforced polymer frame keeps the weight at a manageable 5.3 pounds, and the construction is noticeably more rigid than earlier Scorpion generations. It's a big-format 9mm pistol that doesn't feel like a burden to carry or run at the range.
The jump from the EVO 3 to the 3+ isn't just cosmetic. The controls got a serious overhaul: you now get a fully ambidextrous thumb safety, bolt catch, and an AR-style magazine release that works from either side of the gun. Left-handed shooters in particular will notice the difference immediately. The M-LOK handguard was redesigned in polymer specifically to reduce heat transfer to your support hand during extended sessions, and the grip angle was adjusted for a more natural feel. The new magazines feature recessed texture panels for a positive grip during fast reloads and a locking window to work with the AR-style mag release, while remaining backward compatible with older Scorpion generations.
The adjustable four-aperture aluminum rear sight pairs with a protected, elevation-adjustable front post, giving you a genuinely useful iron sight setup that you can actually dial in. The Picatinny rail on top is long enough to mount a red dot or a compact optic without running out of room, and the M-LOK handguard gives you mounting options for lights, lasers, or whatever else you want to hang off it. The threaded 1/2×28 barrel means a suppressor or muzzle device threads right on without adapters. A rear QD sling mount is also built in, which is a nice touch for anyone who wants to run this thing on a sling. Five 20-round magazines are included in the box, so you're not nickeled-and-dimed before your first range trip.
The 3+ brings a handful of meaningful upgrades over the original EVO 3, not just a new name. Yes. The 7.8-inch cold hammer-forged barrel is threaded at 1/2×28, which is the standard thread pitch for 9mm suppressors and most common muzzle devices. You can thread a can or a muzzle brake directly onto the barrel without needing an adapter. Just make sure whatever you attach is rated for 9mm.
The full-length Picatinny rail on top gives you plenty of real estate to work with. A compact red dot or reflex sight is the most popular and practical choice for this platform given the 9mm PCC engagement distances it's best suited for. If you want to run iron sights alongside an optic, the rail is long enough to position both without conflict. The gun is also drilled and compatible with a wide range of mounts.
The new Scorpion 3+ magazines are designed to work with previous generations of the Scorpion, so your older mags will function in the 3+. The new magazines feature redesigned bodies with a locking window for the AR-style mag release and improved grip texture, but CZ maintained backward compatibility so existing Scorpion owners aren't starting over on their magazine collection.
It's a capable platform for home defense. The 7.8-inch barrel delivers more velocity than a standard pistol barrel, the 20+1 capacity is generous, and the controls are easy to manipulate quickly under stress. The ambi layout means it works for both right- and left-handed users without modification. That said, its overall size is something to factor in depending on your setup and storage situation.
