There's a reason the Drake has become one of CZ's most popular field guns. It uses the same CNC-machined action and internals found across CZ's shotgun lineup, so you're getting proven mechanics in a package built for real hunting. The 28 inch barrels wear an 8mm flat vent rib with a bead front sight, and CZ deleted the mid-rib between the barrels to shave weight, which helps the gun balance and swing better than you'd expect. All in, it comes to about 7.4 pounds, right in the sweet spot for a 12 gauge you'll carry all day.
The Turkish walnut stock is a highlight on this gun, with a pistol grip, laser-cut checkering, and a snag-free forend that keeps your hands planted in wet or cold conditions. The gloss black chrome finish on the barrels and receiver gives it a clean, traditional look that holds up to field use. A single selectable trigger lets you choose which barrel fires first, handy when you've got a tight choke in one tube and something more open in the other. The manual tang safety is a nice touch too, since plenty of clay hunters and dove field regulars prefer not fighting an auto safety between volleys.
With 3 inch chambers and a full set of five flush choke tubes (Cylinder, Improved Cylinder, Modified, Improved Modified, and Full), the Drake covers just about everything. Screw in the IC for quail over dogs, go Modified for pheasants, or tighten up with the Full for late-season birds at distance. Extractor operation lifts spent hulls for easy removal, and a lot of folks who reload prefer extractors anyway since empties stay put instead of flying into the grass.
The Drake ships in a hard case with the choke set and wrench included, so you're set for the field or the sporting clays course the day you pick it up. With a 14.5 inch length of pull and 45.75 inch overall length, it fits most folks well right out of the case. For a first over/under or a do-it-all field gun, this one punches well above its weight.
The Drake uses extractors, which lift spent shells so you can pull them out by hand rather than tossing them into the weeds. Many hunters and reloaders prefer this setup because empties stay with you instead of ending up on the ground. It also keeps the gun mechanically simpler.
It ships with a full set of five flush-mount interchangeable choke tubes: Cylinder, Improved Cylinder, Modified, Improved Modified, and Full. A choke wrench is included as well. That range covers everything from close flushes over pointing dogs to longer passing shots.
It handles both jobs well. The single selectable trigger, manual tang safety, and interchangeable chokes make it easy to set up for skeet, trap, or sporting clays, while the 3 inch chambers and 28 inch barrels are right at home in a duck blind or upland field. At around 7.4 pounds, it swings smoothly on targets without wearing you out on a long walk.
The Drake is built in Turkey by Huglu, a well-regarded maker that CZ has partnered with for years on its shotgun line. It uses the same CNC-machined action and internals shared across CZ's other over/unders, and it's imported and backed by CZ-USA.
