There are plenty of large-format pistols out there, but very few with the pedigree of the Bren 2. This is a clean-sheet CZ design refined from the 805 Bren that the Czech military fielded, and it shows in the details. The heart of it is a short-stroke gas piston system feeding an 11.14 inch cold hammer-forged barrel chambered in 7.62×39, a combo that eats everything from premium brass to bargain steel-case without complaint. A three-position gas block lets you dial it in for normal use, dirty or adverse conditions, or shut gas off entirely.
CZ put this platform on a serious diet compared to the original 805. The upper is machined from 7075-T6 aluminum and the lower is carbon fiber-reinforced polymer, bringing the whole package in around 5.6 pounds. That is genuinely light for a piston-driven gun in this caliber, and it makes a real difference when you are holding it up on the range all afternoon. The controls are where it wins people over: ambidextrous safety and mag release, a mirrored AR-style bolt catch, and a non-reciprocating charging handle that swaps to either side and doubles as a forward assist.
A long run of Picatinny rail up top handles optics, and M-Lok slots at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock on the aluminum handguard take care of lights and accessories. Folding metal sights come standard, with an elevation-adjustable front post and windage-adjustable rear aperture, so it is usable straight out of the box. The muzzle wears a flash hider over 5/8×24 threads, which keeps your suppressor and muzzle device options wide open. Out back, a flush rear plate accepts AR-style buffer tubes, giving you room to configure the gun your way. Fed from 30-round magazines with last-round bolt hold-open, the Bren 2 MS is one of the most refined ways to run 7.62×39 in a compact package, and the trigger is far better than this class of gun usually gets.
Very well for the class. The short-stroke gas piston system and the gun's balanced weight soak up a lot of the impulse, and owners consistently report that the 11 inch barrel version is easy to keep on target. It has more push than a 5.56 gun, as you would expect, but nothing unmanageable.
No, the 7.62×39 Bren 2 MS uses proprietary CZ magazines rather than standard AK mags. They insert straight up into the mag well instead of rocking in, which is what allows the last-round bolt hold-open feature to work. Factory 30-round magazines are readily available.
Yes. The factory flash hider comes off to reveal 5/8×24 threads, which is the common thread pitch for .30 caliber suppressors and muzzle devices. The adjustable three-position gas block is a big plus here too, letting you tune the gas down for cleaner, softer suppressed use.
Absolutely. The upper receiver and handguard give you a long, continuous run of Picatinny rail for red dots, LPVOs, or magnifier setups, and the folding iron sights tuck out of the way when not needed. M-Lok slots at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions handle lights, lasers, and hand stops.
