Swinging on a flushing rooster behind a good dog just feels right with a classic double, and the CZ-USA Bobwhite G2 delivers that experience without the price tag that usually comes with it. This is the second generation of CZ's popular Bobwhite, brought back with a CNC-machined receiver and updated internals, including coil spring hammers and floating firing pins, that slim down the action while boosting reliability and service life.
The Bobwhite G2 wears a straight English-style Turkish walnut stock with a slender grip that points naturally and looks the part in any bird cover. Double triggers give you instant choke selection when a bird flushes close or flares wide, and because this gun is built on a gauge-specific 12 gauge frame, the reach to the front trigger feels natural instead of awkward. A manual tang safety sits right under your thumb, extractors lift both hulls for easy removal, and the 8mm flat rib with a brass bead keeps your eye moving down the barrels where it belongs.
Instead of traditional bluing, CZ finished the barrels and receiver in gloss black chrome, which stands up to rain, sweat, and truck rides far better while still looking sharp. The 28 inch barrels are chambered for 3 inch shells and threaded for interchangeable chokes, and CZ includes five flush tubes running from Cylinder to Full, so you're covered from tight quail rises to late-season pheasants and everything between. At 7.3 pounds with a 14.5 inch length of pull, it carries comfortably through a long day in the field and soaks up 12 gauge recoil better than lighter doubles.
Side-by-sides with this level of fit and finish usually cost a lot more, which is exactly why the Bobwhite earned its following the first time around. Whether it becomes your dedicated upland gun or the double you always meant to own, the G2 is one of those guns that gets carried a lot and babied very little.
It ships with five flush choke tubes: Cylinder, Improved Cylinder, Modified, Improved Modified, and Full, which covers just about every upland and clays scenario. The G2 uses a common thread pattern supported by aftermarket makers like Carlson's, so finding extended or specialty tubes is easy if you want them.
This model uses extractors, which lift both spent hulls out of the chambers so you can pluck them by hand. A lot of bird hunters prefer extractors since your empties end up in your pocket instead of scattered in the grass, and it keeps the action simpler too.
Yes, the chambers are cut for 3 inch shells and it handles 2-3/4 inch loads just as happily. For most upland work you'll be fine with standard field loads, but the longer chamber gives you room for heavier payloads when the situation calls for it.
Double triggers let you pick your choke instantly, front trigger for the more open barrel on close flushes, rear trigger for the tighter choke on longer birds. It's the traditional setup for a side-by-side, and since the G2 is built on a gauge-specific frame, the trigger reach feels natural rather than stretched. Most folks adjust to it within a box of shells.
