The CZ A01-SD Optic-Ready is built from the ground up at the CZ Custom Shop in Mesa, Arizona, not just assembled from off-the-shelf parts. It picks up where the Shadow platform left off and refines it with competition-specific hardware that most guns require aftermarket work to achieve. The frame is hammer-forged, CNC-machined steel finished in black polycoat, and it is heavy by design. That weight up front, courtesy of the short dustcover, kills muzzle rise and softens the recoil impulse into a more manageable push. The "SD" in the name stands for short dustcover, which shifts the balance point closer to the hand compared to the long dustcover (LD) version, making target transitions feel quicker and more natural.
The trigger system is where CZ Custom really put in the work. The CZC Ghost Competition hammer and short reset disconnector are fitted from the factory, and both the hammer and sear are pinned directly into the frame rather than floating in a standard configuration. That gives you a double-action pull in the 8 to 8.5 lb range and a single-action pull of just 3 to 3.5 lbs with a crisp short reset. The trigger itself is based on the CZ 85 Combat, and it shows. There is nothing vague or mushy about it.
The slide is CNC-machined from 4140 bar stock and features both front and rear serrations for a solid grip during manipulation. It ships with an iron sight plate installed and a CZ Custom low-mount fixed rear sight, so it is ready to run as-is. When you are ready to go red dot, CZ Custom makes aluminum optic plates sold separately for popular footprints including the Trijicon RMR, Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, Sig Romeo, C-More, and several others. The fiber optic front sight co-witnesses nicely with most low-mount red dots when the right plate is selected.
The A01-SD feeds from the P-09/P-07/P-10 magazine platform and ships with two 19-round P-09 magazines. Ergonomics round out the package with a deep beavertail, undercut trigger guard, 25 LPI raised checkering, and an integrated magwell for fast, positive reloads. The G10 grips are grippy without being abrasive. This is a competition pistol through and through, and the CZ Custom Shop built it to show.
The A01-SD comes with a proprietary RDS optic cut that uses CZ Custom aluminum optic plates, which are sold separately. Plates are available for a wide range of popular footprints including the Trijicon RMR, Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, Sig Romeo, C-More, Shield RMS, and others. Be sure to order the plate specific to the optic you plan to run, as each plate is matched to a particular footprint.
Yes, it does. The pistol ships with an iron sight plate already installed along with the CZ Custom low-mount fixed rear sight and a fiber optic front sight, so it is fully functional right out of the box without any additional purchases. When you are ready to add a red dot, you simply swap the iron plate for the appropriate optic plate.

The factory trigger work, internal magwell, and 19+1 capacity make it a strong out-of-the-box option for Production Optics and similar divisions where running a red dot is permitted.
It is made in Mesa, Arizona by the CZ Custom Shop, which is the U.S.-based custom arm of CZ-USA. Unlike standard production CZ pistols assembled overseas, the A01-SD is built from scratch stateside with custom internal components including the CZC Ghost Competition hammer, short reset disconnector, and CZC 85 gunsmith trigger.
