The CZ Custom A01-LD is not a modified production gun. It was built from scratch at CZ Custom's facility in Mesa, Arizona, and every decision made during its design was made with one thing in mind: performance in competition. The frame is hammer-forged, CNC-machined, and blued steel, with a dramatically extended long dustcover (that is what LD stands for) that pushes significant mass forward. That forward weight kills muzzle rise and softens the recoil impulse in a way that has to be felt to be appreciated. If you have ever run a heavy steel pistol and thought "I wish this thing came back even flatter," the A01-LD is the answer to that.
The grip is loaded with competition-ready features. A high-cut beavertail, undercut trigger guard, internal magwell bevel, and 25 LPI checkering on both the front and back straps give you a locked-in, repeatable grip every draw. The G10 grip panels add traction without being harsh. The hammer and sear are both directly pinned in the frame, which is a detail that pays dividends in long-term trigger consistency. Double-action pull runs 8 to 8.5 lbs with a smooth, manageable stroke, and the single-action breaks cleanly at 3 to 3.5 lbs with a short reset. The trigger itself is borrowed from the CZ 85 Combat, a platform known for excellent DA/SA feel.
The 4.925 inch bull barrel is machined from 416 stainless steel and fitted tightly, with no perceptible play. The slide is CNC-machined from 4140 bar stock and features front and rear serrations for a confident grip during manipulation. Up top you get a fiber-optic front sight for fast target acquisition and a CZ Custom low-mount fixed rear sight that keeps the sight picture clean and uncluttered. The pistol ships with two 19-round P-09-compatible magazines, giving you plenty of capacity right out of the box.
This is a specialized tool. It is heavy at around 46 to 51 ounces unloaded depending on configuration, and there is no accessory rail on the dustcover. It is not a carry gun or a home defense setup. It is a range and competition pistol, and a seriously good one at that. If USPSA Production or IPSC is your game, or you simply love shooting a beautifully machined DA/SA steel pistol, the A01-LD delivers at a level that very few factory or custom guns can match.
LD stands for Long Dustcover. The extended, heavily massed dustcover is the defining feature of this model and the main reason it shoots as flat as it does. The extra steel up front absorbs recoil energy and drastically reduces muzzle rise compared to a standard-length frame, which translates directly into faster target reacquisition between shots.
Yes, the A01-LD is listed on the USPSA Production division approved handgun list. Its DA/SA action, 19+1 capacity, and overall configuration make it a strong choice for Production competition. Keep in mind you will likely want additional magazines beyond the two included to be fully competition-ready.
The A01-LD uses CZ P-09 pattern magazines, not the standard CZ 75 magazines used in the Shadow or SP-01 series. It ships with two 19-round P-09 compatible magazines, and extended 21-round options are also available. The internal magwell bevel makes reloads smooth and fast.
