The Scout XP Pistol is one of the more interesting things CVA rolled out for 2026, and chambering it in .338 ARC makes a lot of sense. Hornady built that cartridge around heavy subsonic bullets, with a 307 grain Sub-X load that hits with roughly one and a half times the energy of subsonic .300 Blackout, plus a 175 grain supersonic option when you want to stretch things out. In a break action pistol with an 11.5 inch barrel, you lose almost nothing, since the cartridge was designed from the start to perform out of short tubes.
The barrel is 416 stainless steel, fluted to trim weight, and threaded 5/8×24 with a thread protector included, so mounting a suppressor or muzzle device is as simple as spinning it on. The 1:8 twist rate is exactly what those long 300 grain class bullets need to stabilize. Up top, a 0 MOA Picatinny rail gives you a solid mounting point for a red dot or a pistol scope, and the graphite black synthetic grip and forend shrug off weather without complaint. The whole thing runs on CVA's simple break action, the same basic design that has earned the Scout line a reputation for crisp triggers and accuracy that punches well above its price class.
This is a hog and deer gun for folks who hunt inside 200 yards and like doing it quietly. Pair it with a suppressor and subsonic loads and you have one of the softest sounding big bore setups you can put together, which is a real advantage in a blind or over bait. It also makes a handy truck and trail companion thanks to its compact footprint. One trigger, one shot, no fuss. If you have been curious about .338 ARC but did not want to build an AR upper, this single shot is a simple, affordable way in.
It is one of the better factory setups for it. The barrel comes threaded 5/8×24 with a thread protector already in place, and .338 ARC was designed by Hornady specifically around suppressed shooting. The 1:8 twist stabilizes the heavy 307 grain subsonic loads that make this cartridge so quiet and effective at closer ranges.
It shines on hogs, deer, and similar sized game inside about 200 yards. Subsonic 307 grain loads carry roughly 1.5 times the energy of subsonic .300 Blackout, and the supersonic 175 grain load extends your reach when you need it. Because the cartridge was built for short barrels, the 11.5 inch tube gives up very little velocity.
No iron sights or optic are included, but it ships with a 0 MOA Picatinny rail on top. That gives you a solid platform for a red dot, low power pistol scope, or magnified handgun optic. Most owners run a compact red dot for blind hunting or a 2-7x pistol scope for longer shots.
It is about as simple as firearms get. The barrel hinges open to expose the breech, you drop in a single round, close it up, and cock the exposed hammer when you are ready. The Scout platform has a long track record of crisp triggers and better than expected accuracy, and fewer moving parts means less to go wrong in the field.
