Varmint rifles have one job: put round after round exactly where you want them, even when the barrel gets warm and the prairie dogs keep popping up. The Cascade Varmint Hunter was built around that reality. CVA took the bones of their Long Range Hunter, gave it a heavy-contour 20 inch fluted barrel in .223 Rem with a 1:9 twist, and fed it from a 10 round detachable magazine so you spend more time behind the trigger and less time topping off. The muzzle comes threaded 5/8×24 with a protector installed, so adding a brake or suppressor is a five minute job.
The synthetic stock wears Kryptek Highlander camo and carries the features that matter for precision work: a flat, wide forend that rides bags and shooting rests without rocking, an adjustable comb you can dial in with a simple hand knob, and a removable length-of-pull spacer to fine tune fit. Get your eye centered behind the scope, lock the comb down, and your cheek weld stays the same shot after shot. The vertical grip angle feels natural from prone or off a bench, which is where this rifle will spend most of its life.
Underneath it all is the same three-lug bolt with a 70 degree throw that earned the Cascade line its reputation, running smooth with an oversized handle that's easy to grab in gloves. The trigger is externally adjustable and breaks clean, and the two-position safety stays simple and quiet. The barreled action wears Flat Dark Earth Cerakote to shrug off dew-soaked mornings and dusty truck rides, and the factory-installed 20 MOA Picatinny rail gives you extra elevation for stretching that .223 across a wide field. At roughly 8.7 pounds bare, it settles nicely on sticks or a bipod and soaks up what little recoil the .223 produces. For calling coyotes, thinning groundhogs, or burning through a brick of ammo on a dog town, this one checks the right boxes without the custom rifle price tag.
Yes. The 20 inch barrel is threaded 5/8×24 at the muzzle and ships with a thread protector installed. That thread pitch is the standard for most .22 caliber centerfire suppressors and muzzle brakes, so most cans and brakes will spin right on.
The .223 Rem version runs a 1:9 twist. That's a sweet spot for the 40 to 69 grain bullets most varmint and predator hunters shoot, including fast, frangible loads in the 40 to 55 grain range. Very heavy match bullets in the 75 grain and up class are better suited to faster twists, but for its intended job this barrel stabilizes the right ammo well.
The Kryptek Highlander synthetic stock has two ways to tune fit. The comb height adjusts with a large hand knob on the side, so you can set your cheek weld to match your scope height, and a removable spacer lets you change the length of pull. The flat, wide forend is also shaped to sit steady on bags and rests.
It does. A 20 MOA Picatinny rail comes installed from the factory, so you just need rings and glass. The 20 MOA cant gives you extra elevation travel in your scope, which is handy when you're reaching out at longer distances with the .223.
