The scout rifle idea has been around since Jeff Cooper started sketching it out decades ago, and the Cascade SR-80 is CVA's modern spin on it. The name itself is a nod to that history, SR for Scout Rifle and 80 for the year the concept took shape. Chambered here in .350 Legend, it makes a whole lot of sense for close-cover deer and hog hunting where shots come quick and a long, heavy rifle just slows you down. The 18-inch chrome moly steel barrel wears a Graphite Black Cerakote finish, carries a 1:16 twist that stabilizes .350 Legend bullets well, and comes threaded 5/8×24 with a radial muzzle brake already installed, so adding a suppressor or a different muzzle device later is simple.
This is where the SR-80 earns its keep. The forward-mounted Picatinny rail is set up for a long eye relief scout scope or a red dot, keeping both eyes open and your field of view wide. Prefer irons? You get a quality Williams rear peep, which can be run as a ghost ring with the insert removed, matched to a winged front post that adjusts for elevation with a standard AR sight tool. Very few factory rifles give you this many ways to aim without spending another dime.
The 70-degree bolt throw lets you cycle the action without breaking your cheek weld or banging your knuckles on an optic, and the two-position safety is easy to run with a gloved thumb. The Flat Dark Earth synthetic stock with black webbing sheds weather without complaint, and a removable spacer adjusts length of pull from roughly 13 to 14 inches, handy if the rifle gets shared between family members or worn over heavy hunting layers. Three sling studs give you options for a sling plus a bipod. Feeding from a detachable 10-round magazine, the SR-80 is a compact, do-it-all bolt gun that feels right at home in thick timber, a box blind, or riding in the truck.
The forward-mounted Picatinny rail is designed for long eye relief scout scopes in the 1.5-5x range or a red dot sight. Mounting the optic forward keeps both eyes open for faster target pickup in thick cover. If you'd rather skip glass entirely, the included Williams rear peep and adjustable front post are fully capable on their own.
Yes. The 18-inch barrel is threaded 5/8×24, which is the common thread pattern for most .35 caliber suppressors and muzzle devices. Just spin off the included radial muzzle brake and thread on your can. The .350 Legend cartridge with subsonic loads is a popular pairing for suppressed hunting setups.
It's a great match. The .350 Legend delivers solid knockdown power on whitetails and hogs inside 200 yards with mild recoil, which suits the SR-80's quick-handling scout format perfectly. The short 18-inch barrel gives up very little velocity with this cartridge, so you're not sacrificing much for the compact package.
The length of pull adjusts from roughly 13 to 14 inches using a removable spacer in the buttstock. That makes it easy to fit the rifle to smaller-framed hunters or shorten it up when you're wearing bulky cold-weather gear. The synthetic FDE stock also carries three sling studs so you can run a sling and bipod at the same time.
