The .204 Ruger is one of the flattest-shooting varmint cartridges you can buy, pushing 32 grain bullets past 4,000 feet per second, and the CVA Cascade gives it a home that won't wear you out on a long walk to the next dog town. This one wears a 20 inch, #3 contour 4140 carbon steel barrel finished in Graphite Black Cerakote, matched up with an OD green synthetic stock that looks right at home in the sage. At around 7 pounds bare, it carries easily and settles down nicely over a bipod or pack.
CVA's first centerfire bolt gun earned its reputation by getting the details right. The bolt runs a 70 degree throw, so you get quick cycling and plenty of knuckle clearance under a big varmint scope. The two-position safety sits right where your thumb expects it, and the flush-fit 4 round detachable magazine keeps the bottom of the rifle snag-free. The receiver comes with a Picatinny rail already installed, and it also accepts two-piece mounts made for Savage 110 AccuTrigger pattern rifles, so mounting glass is about as painless as it gets.
The stock includes a removable spacer to adjust length of pull, which is handy for younger hunters, smaller-framed folks, or anyone layering up for cold-weather coyote sets. Dual front swivel studs let you run a sling and a bipod at the same time instead of choosing between them. And the muzzle comes threaded 5/8×24, so a brake or suppressor spins right on. That last part matters more than people think with a .204, since a can turns an already mild cartridge into something you can shoot all afternoon without a flinch in sight.
