Description

There is a reason the Crickett has been the go-to first rifle for going on three decades now. Keystone Sporting Arms builds these little single-shots right here in the USA specifically for kids and new shooters, and everything about the design reflects that. This Generation 2 model wears one of Keystone's webbed synthetic stocks, a deep blue base with gold web pattern that gives it way more personality than a plain black stock, paired with a 16.1 inch blued barrel.

Why the Crickett G2 Works So Well as a First Rifle

The heart of this rifle is its manually cocked, single-shot bolt action. After chambering a round, nothing happens until the cocking knob is deliberately pulled back, which builds in a natural pause before every shot. A rebounding firing pin blocks accidental discharge, and a crossbolt safety adds another layer on top of that. One round at a time means a young shooter learns to make each shot count instead of racing through a magazine, and it keeps the adult in charge of the pace of the session.

Generation 2 Upgrades That Matter

The G2 models fix the two most common requests from Crickett owners over the years. The EZ Load feed ramp guides rounds into the chamber, which makes a real difference for small fingers fumbling with .22 shells at the bench. Keystone also installs sling swivel studs from the factory, so adding a sling for walks to the squirrel woods takes minutes instead of a drill press.

Sights, Fit, and Growing Room on the Crickett

Out of the box you get a fixed front post and an adjustable rear peep sight, which happens to be a great setup for teaching sight alignment fundamentals. When it is time to stretch things out, the receiver comes drilled and tapped for Crickett scope mounts. With an 11.5 inch length of pull, a 30 inch overall length, and a weight right around 3 pounds, this rifle fits shooters that a standard youth model still swamps. The trigger breaks light at roughly 2.5 to 3 pounds, and Keystone backs the whole package with a lifetime warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

What age is the Crickett G2 a good fit for?

With its 11.5 inch length of pull and roughly 3 pound weight, the Crickett is sized for kids somewhere in the 5 to 12 range depending on their build, though there is no hard rule. The best test is whether the child can comfortably shoulder it and reach the trigger with proper form. Plenty of adults also grab these as lightweight pack rifles because of the compact size.

Can I mount a scope on the Keystone Crickett G2?

Yes. The receiver comes drilled and tapped from the factory to accept Crickett scope mounts, so adding a rimfire optic is a simple job. Most folks start kids on the included peep sights to build fundamentals first, then add glass later once sight alignment clicks.

What is different about Generation 2 Crickett rifles compared to the originals?

The G2 models add an EZ Load feed ramp that guides rounds into the chamber, which makes loading much easier for small hands. They also come with sling swivel studs already installed, so you can attach a sling without any gunsmithing. Both generations keep the same manual cocking knob and proven single-shot action.

How does the manual cocking system on the Crickett work?

Loading a round and closing the bolt does not cock the rifle. The shooter has to deliberately pull the cocking knob at the rear of the bolt before it will fire, and the rebounding firing pin stays blocked until then. It is a smart setup for teaching new shooters, since it adds an intentional step before every single shot and lets a parent or instructor control the pace.
