Keystone Sporting Arms builds these little bolt actions in Pennsylvania with one job in mind: teaching kids to shoot safely without overwhelming them. The KSA2345 is the Gen2 version dressed in a purple synthetic stock with black webbing, paired with a 16.1 inch blued barrel. At under 3 pounds with an 11.5 inch length of pull and a 30 inch overall length, it fits young frames the way an adult rifle simply can't.
The second generation models bring two upgrades parents asked for. The EZ Loader ramp guides each .22 LR round into the chamber, which takes the fiddly part out of single loading for small fingers. Keystone also installs sling swivel studs at the factory, so adding a sling for walks to the range or squirrel woods is a five minute job instead of a drilling project.
The Crickett runs on a manual cocking system. After closing the bolt on a round, the shooter has to pull the cocking piece rearward before the rifle can fire, and the rebounding firing pin stays blocked until then. That extra deliberate step slows things down in the best way, and an adult standing behind a new shooter can see at a glance whether the rifle is cocked. Sights are a fixed front post with an adjustable rear peep, a great setup for teaching proper sight alignment, and the receiver is drilled and tapped if you'd rather mount a scope down the road.
