Description

The Glaser Pow'RBall does something most ammunition tries and fails at—it feeds like ball ammo while hitting like a hollow point. That polymer ball you see on the nose isn't decoration. It serves as a slick, rounded profile that guides cartridges smoothly into your chamber, even in picky semi-automatics that have historically rejected wide hollow points. Once downrange, the design shifts into protection mode through controlled expansion.

How the Pow'RBall Design Works

The round starts with a copper-jacketed lead core shaped into a specially designed cavity. The polymer ball sits crimped at the tip, giving the bullet a full metal jacket-like profile. During flight, the ball helps with aerodynamics. On impact, it gets pushed aside as the lead core expands through the cavity. The result is penetration that won't over-penetrate while still delivering stopping power. The whole thing is engineered around one goal: give you a cartridge that feeds reliably and expands consistently, without the common problems that plague traditional defensive loads.

Moderate Penetration That Works

This 165-grain load runs at 1225 feet per second from the muzzle, producing 550 foot-pounds of energy. That velocity is hot enough to matter, and the lighter bullet weight helps with recoil recovery between shots compared to standard 230-grain loads. Penetration sits around the moderate zone, which for most defensive scenarios is exactly what you want—you get the expansion benefit without worrying as much about over-penetration through your target and beyond.

Why It Matters in Real Use

Pow'RBall ammunition was born from a real problem: defensive loads that looked great in theory but caused feeding failures in actual firearms. Whether your .45 is a 1911, an XD, or something else entirely, this round was designed with feeding reliability as the main feature, not an afterthought. Cor-Bon loaded this into fresh brass using Boxer primers, so you can reload it if you want to keep costs down over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the Pow'RBall have a polymer ball on the nose?

The polymer ball serves multiple purposes. It creates a smooth, rounded profile that feeds like full metal jacket ammo, preventing the jams that often happen with traditional hollow points in semi-automatics. On impact, the ball gets pushed aside as the bullet expands through its hollow point cavity. It also prevents the hollow point from clogging with heavy fabrics or clothing, which can stop expansion in conventional defensive loads.

Is this +P ammunition safe in my .45 ACP?

This is a +P load, which runs at higher pressure than standard .45 ACP cartridges. Check your firearm's manual or manufacturer specs to confirm it's rated for +P ammunition. Most modern semi-autos and revolvers handle +P rounds fine, but some older firearms or those specifically marked for standard pressure only should not use +P loads.

How much penetration does the Pow'RBall deliver?

Penetration is moderate and consistent, typically around 12 inches in ballistic gelatin testing regardless of whether the bullet passes through clothing or other barriers first. This depth is ideal for most defensive situations—deep enough to reach vital zones without excessive over-penetration that risks hitting unintended targets.

Can I reload these brass cases?

Yes. This ammunition uses new production, Boxer-primed brass cases that are reloadable. This gives you the option to reload these casings down the road if you decide to get into reloading, which can help manage ammunition costs.
