Description
Every AR shooter eventually meets a case that won't come out. You've slammed the stock on the ground, worked the charging handle, and the round is still wedged in the chamber laughing at you. That's exactly the moment Forward Controls Design built the CSR for. It's a compact, sectional take on the tried-and-true stuck-case fix, sized specifically for 18 to 20 inch barreled AR15 and M16 pattern rifles.
Forward Controls Design drew on the old USGI M16 clearing rod, which has always been the right tool for punching out a stubborn case. The catch with the original is that the segments are long, awkward to store, and rely on a bulky folding T-handle. The CSR trims all of that down. The rods thread together into sections, the T-handle is gone entirely, and the whole thing tucks into a pack or pouch without eating up real estate.
What Goes Into the CSR 18-20 Kit
This is a precision-machined tool, not a bin part. The rods are cut from 17-4 stainless steel with a bead-blasted matte finish, maxing out around 4.8 inches per standard segment so nothing sticks out awkwardly. The 18-20 configuration ships with a handle, three standard length rods, two short rods, a serrated 17-4 stainless ram plug, and a brass jag. Thread the stainless plug onto the end when you're driving out a case, and the serrations bite in to help pop it loose.
Using the CSR 18-20 for More Than Stuck Cases
While clearing cases is the whole reason this kit exists, the included brass jag lets you run a patch and use it as a field cleaning rod in a pinch. Keep in mind the CSR is threaded 8-32, so it won't accept USGI 8-36 attachments like chamber brushes or bore brushes. The 18-20 kit runs a bit longer than the carbine versions, so it's too bulky for Vltor and SOPMOD stock storage. Toss it in your range bag or pack and it'll be there the day you need it. Made in the USA and built to outlast the rifle it rides with.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the CSR 18-20 actually for?
It's built primarily to drive out a stuck case from the chamber when mortaring your rifle fails to clear it. The serrated stainless ram plug threads onto the rod and gives you a solid tool to push the case free. It's the compact, packable answer to a problem every AR owner runs into eventually.
Can I use the CSR 18-20 as a cleaning rod?
Yes, the kit includes a brass jag that holds a patch, so you can run it as a field cleaning rod in a pinch. That said, clearing stuck cases is its main purpose rather than routine bore cleaning. Just note it's threaded 8-32, so USGI 8-36 brushes and attachments won't fit.
Will the 18-20 kit fit in my stock storage compartment?
No, the 18-20 configuration runs longer than the carbine versions and is too bulky for Vltor and SOPMOD stock storage. Forward Controls recommends carrying it in a pack or pouch instead. It's compact enough to disappear into a range bag without taking up much room.
What's the CSR 18-20 made from?
The rods and serrated ram plug are precision machined from 17-4 stainless steel with a bead-blasted matte finish, while the jag is machined brass. It's built to hold up for the life of your rifle. Everything is made in the USA.
