Description
Anyone who has spent time around a Colt Peacemaker knows the pain of a chewed-up screw head. The factory slots on a Single Action Army are narrow and unforgiving, and a hardware-store flathead will slip and leave a mark you can never take back. That's exactly the problem the Grace USA HG-3 was built to solve. This is a three-piece set with each blade hollow ground to sit flush in the slot, so torque goes into turning the screw instead of camming out and gouging the finish.
The three drivers cover the screws you'll actually reach for on an SAA and most clones. You get a 7/16" wide blade on a 6-1/4" driver, a fine 1/8" precision tip on a 5-1/2" driver, and a 1/4" stubby at 4-1/4" for tight spots. Between them they handle the trigger and hammer screws, the grip screw, and the grip frame screws.
What Sets the HG-3 Apart on a Peacemaker
The blades are made from USA 8650 chromium-vanadium steel and hardened to R/C 52 to 56, then given a black oxide finish. Grace holds tolerances to -.002/+.000, which is the whole point of a gun-specific set: the tip drops into the slot with almost no wiggle. The square-shanked design also lets you get a wrench on the shank for stubborn, seized-up screws.
A Handle That Earns Its Keep
Each handle is turned from Maine hardwood and capped with a nickel-plated steel ferrule. Wood beats plastic when your hands pick up oil and solvent during a takedown, and these develop a nicer feel the more you use them.
Built and Backed in America
Grace USA has been making these in the States since 1941, and the whole set is hand assembled here. The tools carry Grace's Forever Guarantee against blades that twist or chip, so if one ever fails you're covered. The set ships in a storage pouch to keep the three drivers together in your kit.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the HG-3 set fit my Colt Single Action Army?
Yes. The set is hollow ground specifically for the Colt SAA and covers the trigger/hammer screws, grip screw, and grip frame screws. It also fits most Peacemaker clones, though some vintage or clone screws vary slightly, so check the fit before applying heavy torque.
Why choose a gun-specific set over a regular flathead?
A standard flathead has a tapered tip that only contacts the top edges of a slot, which lets it slip and gouge the screw head or finish. These blades are hollow ground to sit flat and flush against the slot walls, so the tool turns the screw instead of camming out. On a nice Colt, that difference saves you from cosmetic damage that can't be undone.
What are the blades made of and how tough are they?
Each blade is USA 8650 chromium-vanadium steel hardened to R/C 52 to 56 with a black oxide finish. They're built for precision fit rather than gorilla-strength torque, so use them as intended and let a seized screw soak with oil before forcing it. Grace backs them with a Forever Guarantee if a blade ever twists or chips.
Does the Peacemaker screwdriver set come with a case?
It ships in a storage pouch that keeps the three drivers together in your range bag or toolbox. It's a simple pouch meant for organization rather than a fitted hard case, but it does the job of keeping the set in one place.
