There is something special about a Colt double action rimfire, and the King Cobra Target .22 LR carries that legacy well. With its ventilated top rib and full underlug barrel, plenty of folks who pick this one up say the same thing: it looks like a miniature Python. Colt builds it from US forged stainless steel, and the 6-inch one-piece barrel gives you a long sight radius that makes ringing steel at distance feel almost unfair. Add a 10-round cylinder and you get four more shots per loading than the classic six-shooters, which means more trigger time and fewer pauses to reload.
The Target name is earned here. The rear sight adjusts for both windage and elevation, and the red fiber optic front sight grabs your eye quickly whether you are shooting indoors or out in changing light. Cock the exposed hammer and the single action break is crisp and light, ideal for slow fire groups. Run it double action and the pull stays smooth all the way through, which makes it a great tool for building revolver fundamentals. The Hogue overmolded rubber grip has finger grooves and pebbled texture, so your hand lands in the same spot every time.
Because this rimfire shares the same frame feel, trigger setup, and grip as its centerfire King Cobra siblings, it works beautifully as an understudy gun. All that barrel weight up front keeps the muzzle settled between shots, and .22 LR recoil is mild enough that anyone in the family can shoot it comfortably all day. The matte stainless finish shrugs off wear, and the fit and finish are what you would expect from a Colt snake gun. This is the kind of revolver that gets handed down, not traded in.
It is a traditional double action/single action revolver with an exposed hammer. You can thumb the hammer back for a crisp, light single action break when shooting groups, or run it straight through in double action for training and faster shooting. The double action pull is smooth and consistent through the entire stroke.
The swing-out cylinder holds 10 rounds of .22 LR, a nice bump over the six rounds you get from most classic rimfire wheelguns. Aftermarket 10-round speedloaders are available if you want to speed up reloads during long range sessions.
That is one of its biggest strengths. It shares the same trigger configuration, grip, and general feel as Colt's centerfire snake guns, so the muscle memory you build with cheap rimfire ammo transfers directly. It is also mild enough in recoil to be a great first revolver for new shooters.
