There are plenty of AR-15s out there, but not many with this kind of pedigree. The Colt M4 Carbine LE6920-FBP2, better known as the Federal Patrol Carbine, was built to a specification requested by the FBI. Colt took their proven LE6920 platform and dressed it the way federal agencies wanted it: a Geissele 13-inch MK4 free-float M-LOK handguard, Magpul MBUS Pro steel flip-up sights front and rear, a Magpul CTR adjustable stock, and a Magpul PMAG in the mag well. Everything is factory installed, so you get a duty-grade rifle with premium furniture and none of the parts-swapping headaches.
The heart of this carbine is a 16.1-inch chrome-lined 4150 CMV barrel with a 1:7 twist, capped with an A2 flash hider and fed by a carbine-length direct impingement gas system. That fast twist rate stabilizes heavier 5.56 loads, and the chrome lining is there for long-term durability when the round count starts climbing. Instead of the classic fixed front sight tower, Colt fitted a pinned low-profile gas block, which is what lets that Geissele rail float free for a clean, uninterrupted top rail and better practical accuracy. Both receivers are forged 7075-T6 aluminum with a black hardcoat anodized finish, and the lower wears the M4 Carbine rollmark that Colt fans look for.
With M-LOK slots running the length of the handguard, mounting lights, lasers, and hand stops is simple, and the full-length top rail leaves plenty of real estate for a red dot or LPVO. The MBUS Pro sights fold flat and out of the way until you need them, and they're all steel, not polymer. The single-stage trigger, reversible safety selector, and A2 grip keep the controls familiar for anyone who has spent time behind an M4-pattern rifle. At around 7.3 pounds unloaded, it carries well whether it's riding in a truck, sitting in the safe as a do-it-all carbine, or logging rounds at the range. This is the kind of rifle you buy once and stop second-guessing.
The FBP2 is the Federal Patrol configuration, built to a spec requested by the FBI. Instead of the standard fixed front sight post and plastic handguards, it comes from the factory with a low-profile pinned gas block, a free-float Geissele 13-inch MK4 M-LOK rail, Magpul MBUS Pro steel flip-up sights, and a Magpul CTR stock. Same proven LE6920 core, just upgraded before it ever leaves Hartford.
Absolutely, and it's set up nicely for it. The flat-top upper and full-length Geissele rail give you a continuous stretch of Picatinny for a red dot, LPVO, or magnifier combo. The MBUS Pro sights fold flat, so they work great as backups underneath or behind whatever optic you choose.
The 1:7 twist is the military-standard rate and handles the widest range of bullet weights. It really shines with heavier 62 to 77 grain loads, but it stabilizes common 55 grain range ammo just fine. Since it's a 5.56 NATO chamber, you can safely run both 5.56 and .223 Remington.
