Colt kept its AR lineup pretty conservative for a long time, so when they finally built out a carbine the way most of us would set one up ourselves, people paid attention. The EPR-II Pro takes the proven Colt short-barrel platform and dresses it out right from the factory: a rigid free-float handguard with M-LOK slots in seven orientations, a full-length Picatinny top rail, Magpul MBUS Pro folding sights, and a Radian Raptor ambidextrous charging handle. No parts bin swaps needed on day one. It comes out of the box ready for an optic, a light, and a sling.
The Pro designation is not just marketing. Beyond the standard EPR-II, this model adds an ambidextrous magazine catch to go with the ambi safety selector, a QD receiver end plate, an enhanced trigger guard, and the Magpul MOE-K2 grip with its more vertical angle that a lot of people prefer on shorter guns. The handguard has anti-rotation tabs and two integrated steel QD sling sockets, so your sling mounts to metal, not aluminum threads. Underneath all of it is what Colt does best: TDP-spec components, mil-spec materials and coatings, and the kind of quality control that made the LE6933 a fixture in patrol cars for years.
The 11.5 inch chrome-lined barrel runs a 1:7 twist that stabilizes heavier 5.56 loads, and the 1/2×28 threaded muzzle means adding a suppressor is as simple as picking your mount. At 32 inches overall with the Magpul MOE SL stock collapsed, this thing moves through doorways and in and out of vehicles the way a full-size carbine never will. Colt ships it with one 30-round magazine, and it feeds anything STANAG-pattern without complaint.
Plenty of companies build 11.5 inch ARs. Very few build them on a receiver set with this pedigree, with this feature list, at this level of fit and finish. If a short Colt has been on your list, this is the most complete one they have ever shipped.
Yes. The 11.5 inch barrel comes threaded 1/2×28, which is the standard pitch for 5.56 muzzle devices and suppressor mounts. Colt designed the EPR-II series to host a can from the factory, so you can run your preferred mount without any gunsmithing.
Both share the same free-float M-LOK handguard and core Colt build. Yes. The 1:7 twist rate is fast enough to stabilize heavy-for-caliber bullets, including 75 and 77 grain match loads that tend to perform well out of shorter barrels. It also shoots common 55 and 62 grain ammo just fine, so you are covered across the board.
It does. Colt ships this model with Magpul MBUS Pro flip-up front and rear sights already mounted on the full-length Picatinny top rail. They are the all-steel MBUS versions, so they fold flat under an optic and hold up to hard use as backups.
