The Competition Optics-Ready model in .45 ACP takes everything people like about the standard Competition series, the 5-inch National Match barrel, the Series 70 firing system, the dual recoil spring setup, and adds a removable slide plate system so mounting an optic is a plate swap instead of a machining job. Until you're ready for glass, the included Novak fiber optic front and adjustable rear give you a crisp, bright sight picture that works well in just about any light.
The National Match barrel is the heart of this pistol, and it shows up in how the gun groups. The Series 70 firing system keeps the trigger clean and predictable, which is exactly what you want when the timer beeps. The dual recoil spring system takes some of the sting out of .45 ACP and helps the springs last longer between replacements. Add the skeletonized aluminum trigger and an undercut trigger guard that lets your hand ride higher on the frame, and you get a gun that tracks flatter and comes back on target faster than a stock GI-style 1911 ever will.
Both the frame and slide are stainless steel, so you get corrosion resistance and the recoil-soaking heft of an all-steel Government model, right at 36 ounces. The checkered blue G10 grips look sharp against the brushed stainless and lock into your palm even when your hands are sweaty at the end of a long practice session. An upswept beavertail grip safety keeps hammer bite off the table and helps you get the same high grip every draw.
This is a full-size Government frame at 8.5 inches overall, feeding from an 8-round magazine for 8+1 total. One magazine ships with the pistol. Whether you shoot matches, punch paper on weekends, or just want a classic American 1911 that's set up for modern optics, this one covers all three without needing a single upgrade first.
The slide uses Colt's removable plate system, and the factory cover plate carries a serrated rear sight in a Glock-pattern dovetail. Aftermarket adapter plates are available for most popular pistol red dot footprints, so you can match a plate to whatever optic you already run. It's a plate swap, not a milling job, which is the whole appeal of this model.
Yes, and good ones. It ships with a Novak fiber optic front sight and an adjustable rear, so it shoots great as-is if you're not ready to mount an optic yet. The fiber optic front picks up light quickly and is a real step up from standard black-on-black 1911 sights.
This model uses Colt's updated Series 70 firing system, which skips the firing pin block found on Series 80 guns. That's the setup most competition and 1911 trigger enthusiasts prefer because it keeps the pull cleaner with less to disturb the break. Paired with the skeletonized aluminum trigger, it's a strong pull right out of the box.
The dual spring setup spreads the slide's rearward energy across two springs instead of one, which softens felt recoil and smooths out the slide cycle. It also extends spring service life, so you're replacing springs less often than with a traditional single-spring 1911. Combined with the 36-ounce all-steel build, this gun is noticeably soft-shooting for a .45.
