The Colt Combat Elite Government in 9mm starts with a full stainless steel frame and slide, then adds a two-tone PVD finish that blacks out the curved surfaces while leaving the flats polished silver. The result is one of the sharpest-looking production 1911s you can buy, but the looks are not the main event.
Under the hood, this pistol runs a 5-inch National Match barrel with a 1:16 left-hand twist and 6-groove rifling, fitted with a traditional GI-style dual recoil spring setup that softens felt recoil while also being dead simple to service. Colt spec'd it with a Series 80 firing pin safety system, which adds a trigger-activated mechanical block as a drop protection measure. The single-action trigger is crisp by production standards and breaks consistently, though like most stock Colt triggers, it does have room for improvement if you choose to chase a lighter pull later. The National Match barrel, factory night sights, ambidextrous thumb safety, and 25 LPI checkering give it a head start over a lot of production guns. The stock trigger will satisfy most shooters, and the single-action 1911 platform is one of the fastest-handling designs available for competition use. Dedicated competitors often tune the trigger and add magazines down the road, but the platform is absolutely capable.
