There is a reason people say that when you think 1911, you think Colt. The 1911C Government Two-Tone is Colt paying tribute to its own Commercial Government Model pistols, and it does it with some real visual punch. The stainless steel slide with upgraded serrations sits over a matte blued steel frame, and the diamond-checkered rosewood grips tie the whole package together. Under the classic looks, you get the Series 70 firing system, which is the setup most 1911 fans prefer for its cleaner, simpler trigger feel compared to firing pin block designs. The 5 inch National Match barrel gives you the accuracy Colt built its competition reputation on, and the fixed 3-dot sights are quick to pick up and simple to live with. A spurred hammer, flat mainspring housing, and staked front sight round out the traditional details, along with the thumb and grip safeties you expect on a proper Government Model.
At 35 ounces of all-steel construction, this pistol soaks up .45 ACP recoil the way a full-size 1911 should. This model uses the Series 70 firing system, which skips the firing pin block found on Series 80 guns. Most 1911 enthusiasts prefer Series 70 for its simpler internals and cleaner trigger pull. It also carries the classic Series 70 style rollmarks on the slide.
The pistol holds 8+1 rounds of .45 ACP and ships with one 8-round single-stack magazine. Since it is a standard Government Model frame, spare magazines are easy to find, and most quality full-size 1911 .45 ACP mags will run in it.
The sights are a fixed 3-dot setup, so there is no adjustment for windage or elevation beyond drifting the rear sight. The front sight is staked on in traditional Colt fashion, so swapping it is a gunsmith job rather than a quick DIY change. For most range and defensive use, the fixed 3-dot arrangement is simple and dependable.
It works well as both. The all-steel 35 ounce build tames .45 ACP recoil nicely, which makes it a comfortable full-size shooter for someone new to the platform. At the same time, the genuine Colt rollmarks, two-tone finish, and rosewood grips give it lasting appeal for anyone building a collection.
