Anyone who shoots suppressed long enough learns two lessons the hard way. Hot cans burn skin fast, and the heat mirage rolling off a suppressor after a few strings can wreck your sight picture right when you need it most. The Cole-TAC Metal Python exists to solve both problems, and it does it with one of the better retention systems in the suppressor cover world.
Plenty of covers work fine until the can heats up, then they start walking forward or spinning with recoil. Cole-TAC took the metal buckles from their Summit cover and combined them with the BOA-style straps from their original Python, and the result is a cover that cinches down tight and holds its position round after round. The straps also give you a little flexibility, so the same cover can move between similarly sized suppressors without a sloppy fit. This 6 inch version fits cans in the 1 to 2 inch diameter range.
The outer shell is 1000 denier Cordura, the same heavy-duty fabric you find on serious packs and duty gear, so it shrugs off brush, weather, and general abuse. Every seam is sewn with fire-resistant thread, and the cover carries a heat rating of 1800 degrees Fahrenheit. At around 2.2 ounces, it adds next to nothing to the end of your rifle. The coyote brown color keeps things subdued for hunting or blending in with earth-tone setups. Like the rest of the Cole-TAC lineup, it is made in New Hampshire.
The Metal Python is built for bolt guns and deliberate precision work, which is exactly where mirage matters most. Keep the pace measured and this cover will tame the shimmer over your can and let you handle the suppressor sooner after a string. It is not intended for full-auto fire or extended rapid-fire sessions on a semi-auto, so save it for the rifles where you are watching trace and stacking hits at distance.
This version is sized for suppressors around 6 inches long with a body diameter between 1 and 2 inches. The BOA strap system gives you some adjustability, so it can move between similarly sized cans and still cinch down tight. If your can is a little longer, a small section may stick out past the cover, so it pays to measure before ordering.
Cole-TAC designed this cover for bolt guns and precision-style shooting at a deliberate pace. It is not recommended for full-auto fire or rapid strings on a semi-auto, since sustained fire can push suppressor temperatures beyond what any fabric cover is meant to handle. For slow-fire hunting and long-range work, it is right at home.
