Anyone who has run a suppressor hard knows the drill. A few quick strings and heat starts boiling off the can, throwing a wavy mirage right across your optic. At distance that shimmer can make a target nearly impossible to read. The Cole-TAC HTP, short for High Temperature Python, was built for exactly this problem, and it came about because Cole-TAC customers kept asking for a cover they could genuinely let loose on without babying it.
This is a two-piece system. The inner tube is rated to a serious 3000 degrees Fahrenheit, so it sits between your suppressor and the outer shell soaking up the worst of the heat. Over that goes the Metal Python outer shell, made from rugged 1000 denier Cordura nylon that shrugs off abrasion, moisture, and general range abuse. The result is a cover that tames mirage during extended strings and keeps the outside cool enough that a hot can is far less likely to brand your leg during transitions or leave a mark when you sling the rifle.
Plenty of covers fit fine out of the box, then start creeping forward once things heat up and recoil gets involved. Cole-TAC's answer is their BOA locking strap system, which cinches the cover down tight to the suppressor body so it stays exactly where you put it through long sessions. This 6 inch black version fits suppressors from 1 to 2 inches in diameter, which covers a wide range of popular rimfire and centerfire cans.

This version is sized for suppressors up to 6 inches long with a body diameter between 1 and 2 inches. That range covers a lot of common rimfire and compact centerfire cans. If your suppressor runs longer, Cole-TAC makes the HTP in additional lengths, so measure your can before ordering.

It does. Heat rising off a bare suppressor creates a shimmering distortion directly in your line of sight, which gets worse the longer you shoot and the farther out you aim.
